THANK YOU TO OUR FABULOUS P&C
We had a wonderful day of celebration on WorldTeachers Day and are grateful for the recognition we received from our community.
Can't wait for it to rain!!
THINGS THAT MAY LOOK DIFFERENT THIS YEAR:
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT reports will be slightly different this year. They will go out to families on 15 December. These reports will focus on Literacy and Numeracy and Wellbeing.
PRESENTATION DAYS - The assemblies will look very different. Each assembly will be held outside and will be live streamed for the parents of award winners.
Department guidelines are as follows:
Assemblies and presentations
Assemblies and presentations will be allowed outdoors on site. Cohorts should be separated with physical distancing in place.
Fully vaccinated visitors (including parents and carers) are only allowed to attend if completing a specific role (such as presenting) and at the invitation of the school. All visitors must check in using the school check-in and show proof of vaccination.
TUESDAY 7 December Yr 5 & 6 , Kindergarten
WEDNESDAY 8 December - Yr 3&4, Yr 1 & 2
YR 6 FAREWELL Friday 10 December- this will go ahead in some form but will be students and teachers only onsite.
PICNIC DAY - this will be held at school
Drive and park safely near schools
The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools. Please keep our children safe by remembering to:
- always take extra care when driving in 40km school zones
- never double park – it is illegal and puts children at risk
- park responsibly even if this means you have to walk further
to the school gate; please do not park in nearby private buildings - follow all parking signs – these help keep children as safe as
possible - model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver behaviours
to your children
Check-In Assessments
Students in Years 3-6 are participating in a reading and numeracy Check-in assessment. The Check-in assessment is an NSW Department of Education online reading and numeracy assessment for students to complete at school after returning from learning at home. The Check-in assessment is a diagnostic assessment to inform teaching. There are no official parent reports available. The assessment supplements existing school practices to identify how students are performing and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. This forms part of the return to school plan ensuring teacher are informed to support students learning needs effectively. The assessment will be scheduled for our students during Term 4, from the 27th October - 5th November. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment that they would normally receive in the classroom.

EARLY TO LEAVE OR LATE TO SCHOOL
If your child is late to school he/she must be accompanied by an adult to the school office. If they need to leave early they must be collected by an adult from the school office. Please observe physical distancing and wear a mask.
2023 SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Attention Year 5 Parents/ Carers,
See below information about how, and when you can register your child for the Year 7 2023 Selective High School test.
Registrations must be done online and completed before 17 November. Late entries will not be accepted.
The registration website opens on 19 October and closes on 17 November 2021.
NOT RETURNING OR RETURNING LATE IN 2022?
It is vital that we know if your child/ children will NOT be returning to Artarmon or will be returning late next year. Some families take extended holidays in January/ February and we need to know your return date so that your enrolment can be counted. This information will enable the school to plan for staffing and classing needs.
Please note: This does not apply to Year 6 students.
Dear Strings Parents,
Hope you all had spooky weekend. Please note that ensemble sessions and one on one tuition will continue to be held online. We understand that this can be a juggle and we hope it will only be for a short time.
Please be patient with your tutors as the new logistics mean that they are only able to organise one on one lessons outside of school hours. This can be difficult, particularly as the tutors often have existing family and other commitments during this time.
The ensemble sessions will run earlier in the morning with the exception of Senior Strings. Please note that the same zoom links are to be used. We understand that the time slots may not be perfect for everyone but if students can turn up when they can, this would be much appreciated.
Ensemble rehearsals times:
Training Strings: |
740am - 825am Wednesdays |
Junior Strings: |
740am - 825am Tuesdays |
Concert Strings: |
740am - 825am Thursdays |
Senior Strings: |
340pm - 430pm Tuesdays |
Tuition information
It is important that students that partake in the Strings program to take note of the requirements.
All students who participate in the Strings program are expected to take tuition lessons (at school or externally) for the Violin, Cello and Double Bass. Only students who are in Years 3 to 6 and who are currently in the Strings program can be tutored at school (this is currently online), in the instrument they play in Strings Ensemble.
In addition to the tuition, the students also partake in ensemble sessions to play as a group with their peers and learn how to take cues from the conductor.
One month’s notice is to be given if group/individual lessons are to be discontinued or you will need to pay for lessons for this equivalent period.
Our Tutor Coordinator will advise you by email of your child's tutorial details and provide you with a copy of the Tutor Policy.
If you have any questions regarding tutorials, please refer to the Tutor Policy or contact our Tutor Coordinator via the email tutorband@artarmonpandc.org.au
Correspondence
If you are not receiving emails from the Strings Committee, you need to log into your parent portal and update your contact details immediately. A lot of information goes out via email that is not included in Newsflash.
If you have trouble logging into the parent portal, email your group coordinator or the strings convenor.
Please let your strings coordinator know if you have not received an email link to attend ensemble rehearsals for Training Strings, Junior Strings, Concert Strings, Senior Strings via Zoom run by Mr Mansukhani. Please check that these invites are not in your spam/junk/promotions folder.
If your child is sick and/or unable to attend a rehearsal, please notify your corresponding Strings Coordinator.
Informative videos to help with string instruments.
If your instrument is out of tune, do not forget to have a look at these informative videos to help with string instruments. These videos will assist with how to tune and take care of the violin. These have been most helpful to ensure the violin is in tune during practice. Please watch with your child. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOP1ht4mHt0bLr-boSTZ9ig/featured
Volunteers needed.
We still need to fill the following volunteer roles to assist with Strings in 2021/2022:
- STRINGS CO-CONVENOR: Assists Convenor with insurances, instrument purchases, newsflash writeups, replies to email queries, updates MSM portal, event planning, liaises with Strings committee, uniform shop, school, and Mr Mansukhani. Takes over the reins of Convenor for a minimum 2-year term. Requires work in your own home. Approximately 2 hours a week.
By volunteering you will be making a valuable contribution to the running of the String program and your child(ren) will love to see you get involved. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these roles or would like more information, please email strings.artarmonpandc@gmail.com
Got a question?
If it is about your hired instrument or instrumental tutorial, please contact your tutor at first instance.
Alternatively contact our instrument coordinator or strings coordinator if required. For anything else please contact your Strings Convenor.
THANK YOU!
