DEMOCRACY SAUSAGE - FUNDRAISING EFFORTS
What a community we have! Thank you to everyone who donated cakes, jelly cups, chocolate crackles, honey joys, biscuits and treats for the election day cake stall.
A huge thank you must also go to our P&C executive, mums and dads who planned, prepared and cooked hundreds of sausages for our hungry community.
A total of $5,202.60 cents was raised!
The P&C are donating these funds to the school to purchase new reading resources.
BEAUTIFUL WRITING
One of the joys of being a teacher is getting to see students succeed in their learning goals and be proud of their achievements. Lately it has been my pleasure to have students come into my office and share their amazing writing and I thought it about time I share some with you all.
Emily from 6LW's poem written from her perspective after reading the novel 'Bamboo People' by Matali Perkins. The poem is around hope and fear based off the main moods of the novel.
KIDS GIVING BACK
It was wonderful to receive an email about one of our students, Aditi in Year 3 who has donated her time to help others in need. When I approached her to ask her about it, she was so excited to tell me and beamed with pride, I asked her if she would like to share her experience. She was more than happy to share and went home and created the following to share with our community.
“Helping hands are better than praying lips”. These are the famous words from Saint Mother Teresa, which my mum explained to me as we were driving to help at the ‘Cook for Good – Sunday Family Program’, run by a charity group called ‘Kids Giving Back’.
My name is Aditi Dubey. I am 8 years old, and study in Year 3 at Artarmon Public School. I have had the good fortune of serving with ‘Kids Giving Back’ on 2 separate occasions. As a part of the program, I along with other children and their parents, participated in preparing hot pasta and fruit kebabs for homeless people, who are temporarily living in shelters. During the second time, we even got a chance to deliver the meals ourselves. My parents and me, drove around and dropped the packed food boxes to 5 different shelters around North Sydney.
While preparing the meals, I learned several valuable life skills such as peeling, chopping, washing vegetables, and even helped my mum as she made hot pasta sauce. At the time of packing, we wrote small messages on the takeaway containers for the homeless people to read when eating their meals. The volunteering leader told us that homeless people often suffer from loneliness and therefore look forward to reading the messages left for them by little kids, who wish them well. During our break the group leader told us several facts about homelessness, and how it affects not only adults, but young children as well.
‘Kids Giving Back’ is an amazing program which has made me appreciate how lucky I am to be blessed with a home and a family who loves and cares for me. It has also taught me the importance of helping others who are less fortunate and even as kids, we can start by doing little things to make their lives better. I look forward to continuing my journey with ‘Kids Giving Back’ and hope that you too will join us soon. After all, there is so much more to learn, share and grow for all of us, and together we can try to follow in the noble footsteps of Saint Mother Teresa who also said, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, at least feed one”.

Year One Vaucluse House excursion:
In History this semester, Year One have been learning about ‘Past and Present Family Life’ and went on an excursion to Vaucluse House to explore what life was like in the past. Year One learned about how the Wentworth family lived and also played 19th century games including skittles and quoits. We even got to plant and take home our own broad bean! We had lots of fun, thank you to Mrs Yee and Miss Lee for organising it.
