PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
With Mr Coombes on leave for the week, the student leaders have taken over to complete the report for this week.
STUDENT LEADERS' REPORT
We are proud to say that Artarmon Public School has persevered through a series of dramatic weather. We survived the hot sun, the clammy, damp downpour and blasts of wind. The persistence of the students and teachers really shows our school spirit and dedication to our work.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MR COOMBES!!!
Mr Coombes is taking the week off for his birthday and is having a well-deserved break. The responsibility of writing this report was given to the school leaders.
OZ TAG GALA DAY
On Monday, students ventured to Blackman Park for an OzTag Gala Day. They represented our school well, wearing their uniform proudly and played their best. They spent the day playing sports and having fun. A big thank you to Mr King for supervising and supporting the teams. Here is an insight of what the day looked like by Eddie Ohlsson.
“On the day, both the boy’s and girl’s teams played nine games. The girls were undefeated until the finals where they drew with Lane Cove. In the boys final they were down to 5-6 at full time versus Middle Harbour and their biggest victory was 12-4.In summary the day was fantastic and we got to interact with other schools and make some new friends.”
YEAR 6’s JOURNEY TO THE JEWISH MUSEUM
Year 6 went to the Jewish Museum located in Darlinghurst. Year 6 learnt about the hardships of Jewish migrants in their effort to reach Australia. They also saw a holocaust survivor named Judy Davis. She kindly recounted her life biography and answered different questions from different students. This excursion expanded our knowledge of their history lessons in the curriculum. By Lia Avni from 6NR.
OC’s JOURNEY TO THE SYDNEY WRITERS' FESTIVAL
The writers' festival was packed with comedy, facts and inspiration from well-known authors. We were keen to listen to writers such as Corey Tutt, Nat Amoore, Remy Lai and Matt Stanton. Ranging from hilarious tales to inspirational quotes and facts, this festival was a utopia for everyone, especially the students. Students from all types of schools were provided with an abundance of information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s lifestyles and languages. We were given different performances to enjoy and learn from - whether it was an informative report or a hilarious comedy. There were live performances for drawings and a collaboration of 24 movies to enjoy. It was truly a spectacular experience which everyone can enjoy! It was a magnificent excursion where we learnt many interesting facts and tips on writing stories. By Isabelle Lam, Janelle Li and Peter Wang from 6JW.
YEAR 5’S EXCURSION TO THE STATE LIBRARY
The State Library contained shelves full of amazing books and at the same time it was like a museum. There was a gallery section with paintings of famous historical people and events. There was also a section with pictures, forms and illustrations drawn by the people in the past. We then entered a room where we dressed up in fancy clothes and made our own films. My favourite part was when we made our own mini movies. I really enjoyed the State Library because it made me step back into time. By Ellie Jeon from 5JD.
YEAR 4’s EXCURSION TO THE ROCKS
On our excursion we went to the rocks near botany bay and we were dressed as convicts, governors and doctors. We took a tour around the building and the guides told us what materials they used. Did you know that sandstone can keep food cool? Our favourite part was when we dressed up and learnt about the person we were. By Anvesh Kalkudi and Toby Wang from 4ZV.
YEAR 3 BOWLING
Every Friday, most of Year 3 go to Strike Bowling. First we get our shoes and balls and we get 2 turns to bowl. I like bowling because we try to improve our accuracy and we are faced with a challenge. We have friendly challenges to see who can get the best score. By Jarvis Chu in 3BT.
This section was written and brought to you by student leaders, Elisya Arfianto and Rayyan Junaid.
A big thank you to our Hindu Scripture coordinator, Vani Jain, who has managed to find extra volunteers. We now have a Hindu scripture class for grades 1-6.
Year 4 Excursion to The Rocks
This term in history lessons, Year 4 students have been learning about the Age of Exploration, life in 18th Century Britain, the First Fleet and the establishment of the British colony in Sydney. To further engage students in these topics, Year 4 recently went on an excursion to The Rocks to explore what life was like for the early settlers, convicts and the Aboriginal people of the Eora nation in the late 18th century. The students had a fantastic time dressing up as real-life historical figures from the time period.

Details
The school photographer will be at Artarmon from Monday 20th June till Wednesday 22nd June. Monday 20th will be predominately sports and extra curricular photos. Class, individual and sibling shots will take place over Tuesday and Wednesday.
A rough guideline of groups and grades group photo dates can be seen below.
School_Photos_Schedule_parent_version.pdf
Your child/ren should have brought home their individualised envelopes from the photographer. Payments can be made easily online, following the steps on the envelope.
Sibling photo envelopes can be collected from and returned to the front office.
Returning envelopes
Teachers are able to collect envelopes prior to the photo day if payments are made online. If paying in cash, please return the envelope on your child's photo day. All children will be in the class photo and have an individual shot taken even if they do not bring their envelope back as parents and carers can order from the photographer after the day.
Whoosh! The time travelling superhero has turned the tables!
On Thursday, the 9th of June, students are given the opportunity to dress as teachers and vice versa. On that day students are encouraged to bring a gold coin to support families across flood impacted Australia in recovering from the recent floods through GIVIT (https://www.givit.org.au/appeals/givit-together/nsw-flood-appeal). Students can dress up as a teacher they know (Miss Borg, Miss Harrington or Mr Coombes), a fictional teacher (Mrs Trunchbull, Miss Honey or Dumbledore) or just a teacher in general. The SRC’s dedicated work has meant that our school can change the lives of people who need it in a fun, creative and enjoyable way.
-Brought to you by the SRC and student leadership team
Over last weekend, members of the bands and their tutors came together to practice and prepare for the upcoming Sydney Eisteddfod. Good luck to all groups performing in the upcoming Eisteddfods.
A big thank you to Ellen, Christine and Ellis and also Nicole Liu who coordinated the whole weekend. As you can see from the photos, the children had a blast.

Music Intensive Weekend 2022
We were pleased to have our Music Intensive last weekend! Our music directors, tutors and students worked diligently during their music tutorials and rehearsals and made great progress with their ensemble pieces. This was evident during the Sunday afternoon concert where all our ensemble groups played impressively and gave a great performance for our Band parents.
It was also fantastic to see all our students in their music uniforms!
A very SPECIAL THANK YOU to Nicole (Dan) Liu, our Music Intensive Coordinator TWO YEARS in the row. This event couldn’t have been as successful with your involvement. Thank you so much!
A big THANK YOU to all our wonderful Parent Volunteers who helped during both days of the weekend intensive. Even though you’re not in the spotlight, you are the backbone of each and every part of the event. Please know that we could not do this without your hard work.
THANK YOU again to the P&C (Malvina and Jackie) for hosting a sausage sizzle for the children.
THANK YOU to our Music Directors, Mr Walmsley & Mr Mansukhani, and Tutors who gave up their weekends to teach our students.
Lastly a big thank you to our students for all the effort they put into rehearsing, playing and performing at the Sunday afternoon concert. Well done everyone!
