INTRODUCING OUR STUDENT LEADERS FOR 2023!
It has been wonderful this week to spend some time with our elected 2023 student leaders and know how excited and proud they are to represent our school. I also want to take this time to acknowledge the outstanding young role models in our school who were unsuccessful in gaining an elected position though our leadership processes. These children nominated themselves, spoke confidently in front of their peers and were so mature in congratulating their friends, however, knowing that they too have a huge role to play as senior members and role models in our school.

ONLINE PARENT PORTAL - FEES + STUDENT PERMISSIONS
In recent years our school fees and invoices have been sent out via email using the School Bytes finance system. More recently, in the same school management system, we have begun to create a paperless system for school permission notes and intend to maximise the systems ability as a centralised hub for parent and student information.
School Bytes have now developed a Parent Portal that allows parents/carers to view payment history, outstanding fees, online permission notes and in future academic reports and more. This portal is now available for you to register and begin viewing your child / children's history, any outstanding fees and online permission needed.
If you have not registered yet, please do so today. This is where all school information re payments and permissions can be viewed and edited.
To register click here
For step by step instructions on setting up your Parent Portal click here
Permission and fees already sent:
- Term 1 2023 fees are now visible in the parent portal and fee emails have been sent.
- General Permissions - email sent + accessible in your parent portal.
- Student & Parent Digital Online Services agreement - This must be signed by the parent / caregiver and student.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The rain stopped just at the right time yesterday afternoon for our annual twilight swimming carnival at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. A huge thank you to Mr King and Mr Oriel for all their organisation and communication to make the event successful.
There was a great turn out last night with some enthusiastic senior students giving their best cheers to support their peers.
Well done to everyone who attended and tried their best. Ribbon presentations and notes for the zone carnival will be distributed at school.
BUILDING UPDATE
McMillan Shade Structure - The company have been slightly delayed again with the completion of the second structure due to unforeseen circumstances. I am crossing my fingers that in the next Newsflash I will be able to upload some great photos with a completed project.
Abbott Rd Toilet Block - After being delayed due to storm water and plumbing issues, our toilet structure should start taking shape quickly over the next few weeks. Currently the completion date is for the end of March. I will continue to update the community each fortnight.
NEW KISS AND RIDE ZONES
We are excited to announce that the P&C has worked with Willoughby Council to identify 28 additional Kiss and Ride spots around the school. These spots are on Jersey Road (7 spots), Barton Road (4 spots) and Milner Road (17 spots).
The attached map shows the locations of the Kiss and Ride zones around the school and recommended drop off/pick up zones for various year groups. This will ensure that traffic is distributed across various streets and our youngest children can be picked up/dropped off nearest to the school gates while older children can walk safely to/from other kiss and ride zones.
Please remind children (& yourselves!) to always use the pedestrian crossings/traffic lights when walking from a kiss and ride zone.
We’re working with Council to install additional signage (pole wraps etc) to assist parents identify these new zones. Watch out for further updates.
Important note: Kiss and Ride spots are not parking spots. Parents must stay in their vehicle and leave within the time limits indicated (2 minutes). Please use other appropriate spots if you need to park and get out of the vehicle.

NAPLAN will be predominately on line again this year with the exception of Year 3 Writing.
We've started to get parents contacting the office to know exact dates that their children will completing the tests.
Timetables will be communicated with students closer to the dates and are dependent on access to technology.
Students will have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the on line format over the coming weeks. We will be asking for students to bring in wired headphones (no blue-tooth) closer to the NAPLAN window.
For more information please see the attached flyer.
Each year, Artarmon Public School looks for one parent volunteer from each class to be a 'Class Parent.' Class parents play an important communication role in our school and are used to help with the flow of communication between class parents, the teacher, the school and the P&C.
The Class Parent Network is managed by the P&C in conjunction with the school. Each year, the P&C aims to compile a list of Class Parent contacts, which are used to facilitate communications at the school.
The types of activities a Class Parent may be involved in include:
- Help with communication between the families of children in the class, with the teacher, school and P&C Committees
- Help to make families feel part of the school community
- Make a list of names and contact details of class families
- Support your class teacher as required
- Email important information to class families from the school or P&C Committees
- Organise social activities for class families
- OPTIONAL- Attend P&C Meetings
The role is NOT: To give advice or be a point of contact for parent issues/concerns associated with the students, class or school. These matters are managed by the classroom teacher, the Assistant Principal, The Deputy Principals or the Principal.
Please see the attached PDF for further information. If you're interested in nominating yourself as class parent, please fill in the Google form.

A_guide_for_Class_Parents_at_Artarmon_Public_School.docx.pdf
Dear parents,
Next week is our first P&C meeting of the year.
It is a great opportunity to meet the school executive team in person as well as fellow parents. We would also like to use the meeting as an opportunity to welcome all 2023 Kindergarten parents to join the meeting.
Our goal is to maximise engagement and offer everyone who would like to attend the meeting the opportunity to do so, as such we are trialling a hybrid meeting format, inviting those who are able to attend in person to do so whilst providing others the option to join via ZOOM.
We look forward to seeing you next week. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me president.artarmonpandc@gmail.com
Warm regards,
Malvina
