Welcome to Week 6 and our fortnightly Newsflash. It is crazy to think that we are already half way through the term. It is wonderful to see how settled your children are each day in classrooms and the playground and how they love to show up everyday to learn, play and grow at Artarmon.
Yesterday we had the majority of our new class parents come together to thank them for volunteering and share ways they can support our school. If you have not already, you will soon receive communication from your class parent regarding joining a What's App group or email distribution list. If you do not receive this or you are not sure how to contact your class parent by the end of next week, please contact the school.
Please remember our main forms of communication are our SZappp notification/ emails and fortnightly Newsflash. If you do need clarification or support in anyway, please do not hesitate to contact the school via email and we will get back to you.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SEMESTER TWO SRC REPRESENTATIVES
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT
It was wonderful to see our parents in classrooms and the hall for grade information sessions at our 'Meet the Teacher' nights last week. I hope you found it valuable and got an insight of where and how your child learns every day.
We would like to gather some feedback regarding on your thoughts, after trialling the new class and grade session format.
Please know that we are still planning our individual interviews in Week 10 of Term 2 after we have sent out the Semester One academic reports.
If you could spare a few minutes, please click on the link to answer a few questions. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

YEAR 5 OFF TO CAMP
Floods of tears were seen flowing down Abbott Rd this morning as our Year 5 parents waived farewell to their well rested, clean and excited children as they made their way to the Great Aussie Bush Camp.
A huge thank you to all the teachers for giving up their own time to allow our students this amazing opportunity. We know on Friday when they return, the well rested and clean adjectives used above might not best describe the cohort as they disembark the coach for a weekend at home.
Parents of Year 5, please keep an eye out for updates via the SZappp for time of arrival.
H BLOCK ARTWORK
Our artwork commissioned from some of last years Walkathon funds is coming together in our playground.
The students have thoroughly enjoyed watching the artwork come together over the last week.

Artarmon Public School library strives to be a warm and welcoming space that provides quality resources to facilitate our students’ journey to be curious, critical, creative and cooperative learners and life-long readers. Our books are carefully selected to meet students reading interests and abilities.
All students visit the library each week for borrowing. Students are encouraged to borrow up to 4 books every week. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 have a one week loan period and students in Years 3 to 6 have a three week loan period.
We have lots of fantastic books that are just waiting to be borrowed! Please encourage your child to borrow regularly.
Library books should be returned to the library before school,
Monday – Friday 8:25 – 8:55am.
2023 PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge encourages students to participate in an ongoing reading program, reading a set number of books at their own reading level. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more and to read more widely.
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2023 started on Monday 27 February and concludes Friday 18 August 2023. We would encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile Challenge.
What does the challenge involve?
Kindergarten to Year 2 students need to experience 30 books, 20 of these books need to come from the K-2 PRC booklists. 10 books can be their own free choice. Students can read the books on their own or be read to by parents/carers.
Years 3-6 students need to read 20 books, 10 of these books must be on the PRC booklists and 10 books can be their own free choice.
PRC books can be found in our school library and in local council libraries. For the PRC booklists, please visit: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
How to register and record books online:
-
Go to the PRC website https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
-
Select the "log on" button from the menu on the left of the PRC.
-
Enter the student's DET username and password.
-
Enter the PRC ID code for each book the student has read.
If you need assistance in learning how to add books at home, please watch this helpful video! https://prcsupport.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/24000023273
Happy reading!

Menstrual hygiene program comes to Artarmon Public School
The NSW Department of Education has introduced a menstrual hygiene program in NSW public schools. Our menstrual hygiene program aims to reduce any barriers that may prevent students from participating fully in school life.
As part of the program, our school has dispensers that provide free pads for students to access during school hours. The dispensers will be located in the female toilets off the McMillan playground.
Period underwear is also available
Our school can also order period underwear at no cost for students. Students can access this product by requesting a pack at the front office.
Each pack of period undies contains 2 pairs that are the same size, colour and style. These are available upon request and there may be a short waiting period until the undies are delivered to our school.
Visit edu.nsw.link/MHP to find more information and to download a flyer about the program which is available in English and 10 other languages.
