SCHOOL APPS AND ACCESS TO SCHOOL INFORMATION
Communication and access to your child's school is important and we have the following apps and communication methods to support you and our school.
The different applications and email options that allow our community to have access and direct communication with the school and day-to-day operations are:
School Bytes Portal or School Bytes app
- Log attendance reasons
- Complete online permissions
- Access school calendar
- View the statement of account
To view all these in your portal, please use the tabs across the top menu.
SZapp
- Receive reminders and communication linked to specific grades
- Access the school Newsflash every second Wednesday
- 'Contact Us' tile: Used to send communication to the school or seek support from the office staff.
School Email address: artarmon-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
- Send an email to contact your child's class teacher. The email will be forwarded on and actioned.
- Contact the school executive for support if needed.
These communication options are set up to best support our community and ensure we have effective systems so we can action any questions or support you may need.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Our teachers volunteer their time each year to offer a significant number of extracurricular activities that children are able to sign up and try out for including dance, debating, PSSA inter-school sport competitions, chess, choir, multicultural public speaking, TOM, Lit Quiz and more.
Opportunities for these extracurricular activities are communicated to the students in regard to how to express interest, the teacher who is leading the activity and what is involved. Over the last couple of weeks, teachers have been sharing this information and running trials. If your child is successful in one of these activities, information for parents will be sent home via the School Bytes portal.
If your child is interested in one of these activities, please encourage them to speak with their classroom teacher for support with finding the right person in the school to support them.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our amazing teachers for volunteering their time to run these groups and provide this opportunity for our students.
TERM ONE INVOICES - via SCHOOL BYTES PORTAL
Thank you to all our families who are using the School Bytes portal and app to complete our online permission forms, submit attendance reasons, sync family calendars and pay our Term One fees.
A reminder that on Monday, our term one fees were published including detailed information on invoice breakdown. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the office. If you did not see the invoice breakdown, please click on the link for all the information.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL SUCCESS
A huge shout out to Ms Kilpatrick, Mr Oriel and Mr Turner for the organisation and smooth running of this year's twilight swimming carnival. It was one of our best events with a great turnout from our community.
As mentioned on the night, there are a lot of reasons behind why we run a twilight swimming carnival and these are all linked to what's best for students and families. Nights like this, however, wouldn't be possible without our outstanding staff volunteering their time to ensure we get the job done and for this, I am extremely grateful.
RETURNING OF BORROWED SCHOOL UNIFORMS
On occasion, your child may come to the office requiring a change of uniform. If this has occurred please ensure that you wash and return these items to the office as soon as possible.
STUDENT INVOICES
Earlier this week our Term 1 student invoioces were sent out via School Bytes.
if you have not yet accessed this information, please log into your Parent Portal for all information.
This below information was attached to your term invloice to help explain ands detail all costs.
If you have any concerns, please do nmot hesitate to contact the office.
The weather was perfect for our annual twilight swimming carnival at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre last Thursday. A huge thank you to all staff who performed their roles in making this carnival a smashing success, and a special thanks to Ms Kilpatrick for organising the event.
There was a fantastic turnout, with some enthusiastic senior students giving their best cheers to support their peers.
Well done to all the swimmers who attended and tried their best. Ribbons for the placegetters will be distributed at school this week. Information about the 2024 zone carnival and permission notes for participants will be available soon.

WINNING HOUSE: FLYNN |
Wednesday 21st February- Grades 1, 2, 4
Thursday 22nd February- Grades 3, 5, 6
How the evenings will run:
Each grade will be a 45 minute session broken up into a 20 minute classroom session in your child’s 2024 classroom and a 20 minute grade session in the hall. There will be 5 minutes in between for parents to move from one venue to the other.
We understand that parents may have children in multiple grades. We’ve tried to stagger the sessions so that parents can attend multiple but this may not always be possible for every family situation.
As space is limited in classrooms it is suggested that children stay at home.

Dear Parents and caregivers,
The North Shore Zone PSSA have made changes to the Friday inter-school sport competition for 2024.
Please see a letter from the Zone President outlining how they will move to a gala day system.
Our PSSA sport teams will still meet on Friday mornings during the summer and afternoons during the winter seasons to train and build their skills in preparation for the gala day competitions.
Information on training times will be told to students from coaches and online permission slips for gala days will be sent via the School Bytes portal.
Artarmon Public School library strives to be a warm and welcoming space that provides quality resources to facilitate our students’ journey to be curious, critical, creative and cooperative learners and life-long readers. Our books are carefully selected to meet students reading interests and abilities.
All students visit the library every week for borrowing. Kindergarten students are encouraged to borrow up to 2 books. Students in Years 1 to 6 are encouraged to borrow up to 4 books. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 have a one week loan period and students in Years 3 to 6 have a three week loan period.
We have lots of fantastic books that are just waiting to be borrowed! Please encourage your child to borrow regularly.
2024 PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge encourages students to participate in an ongoing reading program, reading a set number of books at their own reading level. It is not a competition, but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more and to read more widely.
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2024 begins on Monday 26 February and concludes Friday 23 August 2024. We would encourage everyone to participate in this worthwhile Challenge.
What does the challenge involve?
Kindergarten to Year 2 students need to experience 30 books, 20 of these books need to come from the K-2 PRC booklists. 10 books can be their own free choice. Students can read the books on their own or be read to by parents/carers.
Years 3-6 students need to read 20 books, 10 of these books must be on the PRC booklists and 10 books can be their own free choice.
PRC books can be found in our school library and in local council libraries.
Click here for the PRC Booklist
How to register and record books online:
- Go to the PRC website (or login in via the shortcut in your child’s Student Portal).
- Select the "log on" button from the menu on the left of the PRC website.
- Enter the student's DET username and password.
- Enter the PRC ID code for each book the student has read.
Students in Kindy and Year 1 will be given their details next week.
Students in Years 2 to 6, should already know their DET username and password.
If you need assistance in learning how to add books at home, please watch this helpful video!
Happy reading!
Ms Wendy Wong
Librarian
