We look forward to hosting 300 parents on Monday, 27th May from 6 - 7.30 for our Numeracy Parent Information session. Please note the new location will be beginning in the hall and breaking into groups from there. If you have not already sent an RSVP, unfortunately you will not be able to attend as we are preparing resources for this amount of parents. It is so wonderful to see such a huge community support at Artarmon and the teachers have been working hard to make it as practical as possible with the large number of parents attending. It is best to leave your children at home with another carer during this session.
Tomorrow the school is coming together to have a whole school photo with a drone. We look forward to sharing the images with the school community shortly.
Thank you to the P & C for running the BBQ and cake stall on Election Day weekend. Again, such a supportive community does not go unnoticed and we value the significant contribution to the school from events such as these.
We hope to see many of you at the P&C meeting tonight. It will be held in the library.
Today our teams competed against Lane Cove in the first round of debating. We were off to a good start and both Artarmon teams were successful. We look forward to the next debate against Lindfield East and Castle Cove!

Year 5 Music
During Term One, Year 5 children had fun during music lessons. They worked in groups; composing simple rhythmic patterns using untuned percussion instruments. In early Term 2 they will be attending a complimentary incursion that will supplement this learning. They will be taught and entertained by a musical ensemble named ‘Alice in Antarctica’ from the Musica Viva group.
“I really enjoyed the music lessons. It was awesome to have a chance to create our own songs and perform them to our class.” - Millie 5NS
“It was a fun experience to play different instruments. The song my group created used random beats at different points in the music and sounded pretty good.” - Riki 5NS

Alice in Antarctica
Musica Viva Performances
Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st May 2019
On Monday and Tuesday we had two musicians visit the school from Musica Viva to perform ‘Alice in Antarctica’ for students in Kindergarten to Year 6.
The musicians used harps and other instruments to take students on a musical journey to Antarctica. Please enjoy a selection of photos of our students enjoying the performances.
Thank you very much to all the people who baked or brought delicious treats down to the cake stall on election day for us to sell. It was greatly appreciated. Thank you also to all the parents who helped out on the day cooking and selling. Great fun was had by all and some of us even got to meet the premier Gladys Berejiklian and our minister Trent Zimmerman.

- Instrument damage – what you should do
There have been a few incidents recently with cellos and violins getting damaged. We understand how hard it is for young children especially to take good care of their instruments, and we understand that sometimes damage is not their fault. But please remind them of the importance of looking after their instruments.
If damage does occur:
1) Contact your tutor. They may be able to assess the severity.
2) Contact The Sydney String Centre on 94712611, send them a photo or take it in for a repair quote.
3) Send that quote to me (on the main strings email address as below) and your tutor.
4) Contact Joanne Wang, the instrument coordinator, on joanne_wang99@yahoo.com to arrange a replacement instrument while your assigned one is being repaired.
5) The program will pay for usual wear and tear, but personal damage should be paid for by the family. That’s why we do recommend including your instrument on your own insurance.
If you are having difficulties maintaining your instrument, transporting it, or have any other concerns with your child, talk to your tutor and your ensemble coordinator first. We don’t want children to struggle with the program or get upset if they can’t maintain it. We would rather try to solve the problem first than have them drop out!
