CHANGE OF SCHOOL COMMUNICATION APP AND WEBSITE
Our brand new school website with parent communication app are about to go live. There will be no change to the website url, however, a more friendly and usable look will enhance our schools communication.
One of the major draw cards of moving our website to Schoolzine is that all information and weekly Newsflash articles can be translated imediately using the inbuilt Google Translate function.
Click here to try this weeks Newsflash in the new online format.
The current skoolbag app will be phased out and the new Schoolzine app will be introduced. This app is a product of the website design company, therefore, community messages and events are synced making it easier for the community to access information.
We will start using the new Schoolzine app (SZapp) from Week 4 – 5 November
To download the new SZapp please follow the instructions attached below.
SOCCER JERSEY SPONSORSHIP
A huge thank you to local pharmacist Nick Logan who has again very generously sponsored the new look soccer jerseys for our 4 teams that compete in the local PSSA competition. Nick now proudly wears his very own version of the jersey and we are sure from time to time you will see him in the main street supporting our school.
AFTERNOON PICK UP
We understand that due to the construction and limited space, collecting children by car in the afternoon can cause some delays. If at all possible we encourage you to park and walk to school at the moment. If you do need to drive it is important that children remain safe at all times by parents and carers being patient at the pick up zone. Please make sure you talk to your children about remaining calm and waiting patiently until it is safe to enter the vehicle. We would appreciate parents remaining in the car at the pick up zone as our primary responsibility is safety of our students.
GARDENING BEE CANCELLED
The scheduled gardening bee for this Saturday has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled for a later date.

School student applications for 2019 open from Monday, 15 October 2018.
Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:
- are continuing at the same school
- are residing at the same address
- have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2018 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2018, the system will automatically cancel a card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out during December 2018 and January 2019.
For further information visit https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts
Selective High School Applications 2020

All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test to be held on Thursday 14 March 2019.
Please collect an intention to apply form from the school office.
Welcome to Spring: Where the weather becomes unpredictable at best.
We are lucky enough to have the comfort of an amazing music room. It protects our music students from most of the elements (all except the element of surprise because … well…)
The exception is for some special outdoor events still vulnerable to rain, especially for our fellow String and Guitar students. For those events, Mrs Green and Mr Walmsley will make a decision and advise through the SkoolBag app. We will also send an email out ASAP.
Remember: Rehearsals are always on UNLESS you receive an email otherwise (or read it here)
Interested in Joining the Band Program?
Our AWESOME band program welcomes new students who will be in years 3, 4, 5, or 6 in 2019. No prior music experience is required. Application details are coming soon so watch this space. Please note: We are only able to accept applications for students in Year 3 or older in 2019. If your child is younger than this, we look forward to meeting them when they are in Year 3.
Volunteers Make The Band – We Need You!
Our Band Program cannot function without you! We rely on parent volunteers to fill to support with administration and committee functions. In particular, we are looking for a Tutor Coordinator. The Tutor Coordinator is required to prepare the tutorial timetable, distribute end of semester reports, and liaise with the school and teachers. If you are interested or can help in any committee roles, please contact Catharine Miller at band@artarmonpandc.org.au to find out more.

Strings Program enrolment for 2019
Double basses and cellos and violins – oh my! (and occasionally a viola)
The strings program will soon be enrolling new students for 2019. We offer spaces for students in Year 3 and above only. No prior musical knowledge or experience is necessary, only a love of music and a desire to play a string instrument.
Strings Demonstration, Thursday November 1, 1:40pm Abbott Road Cola: The first event is a demonstration by our accomplished Senior Strings ensemble to the current Year 2 and Year 3 classes. Here, the younger kids will get to witness both strings and band instruments being played and hear how they sound.
Information on the program will be handed out on the day.
Strings Try-outs, Thursday November 27, morning: For those who expressed interest following the demonstration, there will be try-outs on all string instruments. Again, no experience is necessary. This is to see which students are suited to which instruments.
Re-enrolment for 2019
For current students, you will soon be sent a link to re-register for next year if you are continuing, or to advise us if you are leaving the program. You will need to return all hired instruments by Week 9 for cleaning and checking, and pick them up before the end of term. Exact times for this will be sent out.
Auditions for current students, Week 8
Students wishing to move up to the next ensemble level will need to audition. Auditions will take place in Week 8. The audition is nothing to get worried about – Mr Mansukhani will send out the required scales or pieces well in advance. It is a good chance to show him how much you have improved over the year.
Volunteers2019
And finally, we have a number of volunteer positions open for next year. The program runs entirely with the help of parent volunteers, and it is a great way to meet other parents and become involved in the musical side of the school.
Please let us know if you are interested in hearing more.

Leaving the school in 2019?
Dear Parents and Carers,
The first day of school for most students next year will be Wednesday 30 January, 2019. Year 5 OC students will begin on Thursday31 January, 2019 and new Kindergarten students will be informed by letter of their starting date.
It is vital that we know if your child/ children will NOT be returning to Artarmon or will be returning late next year. Some families take extended holidays in January/ February and we need to know your return date so that your enrolment can be counted. This information will enable the school to plan for staffing and classing needs.
This note does not apply to Yr 6 students.
Please return this note to the office as soon as possible
