Welcome back!
Welcome back to our existing families and welcome to our newly enrolled and our new kindergarten families. We hope you have enjoyed your first week at Artarmon PS.
No doubt you are all relaxed after your summer holiday and are excited for everything 2020 has to offer. Thank you to all our families for a smooth transition into another school year. It is great to see so many of you back and in the school grounds.
2020 Classes
This year we have formed 50 classes and we continue to monitor our enrolment numbers to move towards finalising class placements. Please remember that due to fluctuating student numbers in all grades, some changes are necessary. These changes are made to ensure all students have access to the best possible learning environment. Classes will be finalised at the end of this week.
Kindergarten
What a wonderful bunch of (170) lovely settled Kindergarten students we have this year. A huge thank you must go the Kindergarten teachers and support staff who have worked tirelessly to be prepared and provide the best possible start to school.
To our wonderful Kindergarten parents, thank you for listening and following our instructions to allow your children to settle quickly. We understand you would love to be in the classroom with them and see them learn. Please remember that we will have open classrooms on the 27th of February. More information to come home soon.
Kindergarten information night:
When: Thursday 13th February, 6:30pm
Where: School hall
Please come along to hear all things happening in Kindergarten and how you can be best prepared to provide your child the best start to school life.
Parent Teacher Interviews - Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th February
This Friday information in regards to parent teacher interviews will be sent home and also available via the school app. Please keep an eye out for this and book your interview online. Interviews are 10 minutes per child, providing you an opportunity to meet the teacher and hear about their work habits and how they have settled into the new class. These interviews are not an opportunity to discuss academic progress. Interviews will be held in the school library. Please arrive a couple of minutes prior to your scheduled time and access the library via the door under the stairs near the Barton Rd gate.
Swimming Carnival
Information this week has gone home to students grades 2-6 in regards to our swimming carnival for this year. Please read this note carefully as students must be able to confidently swim 50m before entering the carnival. As you can imagine with a school this size there are a number of organisational and safety factors that make it necessary for these sanctions. We appreciate and thank you in advance for following the guidelines.
Pedestrian Safety
At all times we want to provide a safe environment for your children. One of our major concerns is parents and students crossing Abbott and McMillan Rd after school. If all parents can please ensure you speak with your child or demonstrate the appropriate and safe way to cross the roads, that is, using the pedestrian crossing on McMillan rd or the lights at the end of Abbott Rd.

Dear Parent/Guardian,
We wish to advise you that a student in our school community is currently receiving medical treatment for cancer. This student will be attending school on occasion while undergoing treatment.
As a consequence of treatment, this student's ongoing health is at risk if she comes into contact with infectious illnesses, in particular: chicken pox, measles, mumps, whopping cough or shingles. If your son or daughter is suspected of having one of these illnesses it is very important that he/she does not attend school. It is also important that while your child is unwell he/she remains at home until he/she is no longer contagious. Information on infectious conditions can be found on national health websites e.g. www.health.gov.au or alternatively contact your local GP.
If your child has chicken pox, measles, mumps, whopping cough or shingles or is suspected of having an illness please contact the school immediately. This will allow the school to assess the probable contact and therefore exposure of our student to the disease. Notification can then be given to the parents and medical specialists.
As a school community we value your support in relation to the well being of all of our students. Please do not hesitate to contact Louise Green if you have any questions.
Yours sincerely,
Louise Green
Principal
Welcome back to school and welcome to those families who have just started. It’s wonderful to see so many new students come into the music program.
Are you getting strings emails?
If you are registered in the program and are not getting emails, then you need to log back into your parent portal and update your contact details. If that doesn’t work, email us.
