WOW ! WHAT A WEEK
There is so much information to give to you and we are trying to give it out in measured doses so that it does not become overwhelming.
This week children took packages of work home, so I thought it would be good to clarify some things:
- Online Learning - there is some confusion about this definition. Online learning may mean accessing Google Classroom for some classes, some video messages produced for students to view but it may also mean the ability to email digital copies of work to students. The Department has given schools flexibility in this area. We have planned sets of work that will last children until the end of term and then we will communicate further.
- Google Classroom - some classes have already been using this strategy and its quite successful. For the rest of term all teachers will be developing their skills , planning work and setting out some clear guidelines as to how Google classroom will be used for each class the future. They will also develop parent guidelines.
- For those senior classes who have already been using Google classroom, it will continue. There will be a time each day when the teacher will be there to answer student questions about the work - not parent questions. Classes will be preparing for future use. Please keep in mind that if teachers are working from home, many of them have children of their own to care for and supervise learning. More information will come out later this week.
- Parents questions about school programs should be sent to the school email.
- Daily schedules have been provided that will help parents to organise their day. Remember these are guidelines and we understand that flexilbility is needed to cater for different home settings. That's OK. However it is still a good idea to implement some structure in their day so that transition back to school will be easier for them.
- Please be patient. Artarmon Public School staff are way ahead in their planning and over the next few weeks we will keep you updated.
- Social distancing: Due to current guidlines in place we are working within our setting to comply with these rules as best we can. This means that we can not have parents or students coming on site to collect their pencil case or homework book. If you need resources at home such as pencils or books, they will need to be sorced outside of school.
PLEASE KEEP CHECKING THE NEWSFLASH, WEBSITE and SCHOOLZINE APP.
Thanks so much for the wonderful support you are giving us, it is much appreciated.

Dear parents,
The current situation that we all find ourselves in with the Covid-19 virus is truly unprecedented and something that most of us have not experienced in our lifetime. Despite the immense pressure that many of us are feeling we have all come together as a community of parents and carers in a way that has been overwhelming. Talking to parents last week the sense of unity and the feeling that we are truly all in this together was tremendous.
I want to personally thank our Principal, Louise Green who has been working around the clock to share information with parents, teachers and children in a timely and consistent manner. I have had a miniscule insight into the array of issues that Mrs Green has had to deal with on a daily basis during this crisis and it is hard to fathom. Thank you for continuously putting the interest of our children first and thank you for looking after our teachers, allowing them to provide our children with the very best care and education.
I want to thank all the teachers for their tireless work and commitment in looking after our children, reassuring them, maintaining hygiene standards, keeping them calm, trying to keep them the required distance apart and trying to answer all their questions about what is currently going on in our community. They have been doing all this on top of teaching, supervising, enriching, motivating, problem solving, inspiring and role modelling. They have worked tirelessly to provide the children with learning packages to enable them to learn at home whilst still teaching the children who need to attend school.
On behalf of all the APS parents the P&C purchased coffee vouchers for all teachers and staff at the school this week, and they were immensely appreciated.
I know many parents, who are in a position to do so have taken Premier Berejiklian’s recommendation and kept their children home from school. We are on day 2 with kids at home and to say that it is challenging is an understatement. My family have been having get togethers via Zoom with friends so the kids can still have a way to socialise and it has been immensely helpful. The P&C are going to put together some resources of fun things you can do at home with the children over the coming weeks and we will share them on the P&C website.
We are all in this together and will all come through this together. Please look after yourselves and your children and stay safe and equally importantly sane.
If there is anything that you think the P&C can do or anyway that you feel we can support you during this time please don’t hesitate to contact me on president.artarmonpandc@gmail.com .
Warm regards
