The weeks seem to get busier and busier. A big thank you to our families when complying with the Pick Up and Drop Off arrangements. We will be continuing with this arrangement until further notice.
We are enjoying standing at the front of the school and welcoming our students to school.
It is, however, sad to see so many students who are late and arrive well after the bell goes. In a school with 1280 students we are seeing almost 10% of students coming to school late.
We have attached some more advice and information in this week's Newsflash which may assist you.
STUDENT INVOICES
There are a number of activities that students have paid for that have not gone ahead due to the Coronavirus.
The office staff are currently working on refunding costs from the beginning of Covid until the end of this term. This may take a considerable amount of time.
Yr 6 Canberra Excursion will go ahead in November so will not be refunded.
Please contact the school if you have not received your refunds by the end of term.
UMBRELLAS AT SCHOOL
Rainwear for students at school should be a raincoat and not umbrellas.
At school it's extremely dangerous trying to walk through the playground on a rainy days with so many umbrellas up.
ROAD SAFETY
PLEASE REMEMBER HOW WE KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE AROUND THE SCHOOL
Drive carefully and use the Kiss and Drop zone appropriately.
Use the pedestrian crossing when crossing the road with your children. It is a good model for them and much safer for you and them.
When it is raining there is one key message to keep in mind - IT IS JUST WATER. If children get a bit wet they can always dry off at home. Raincoats are helpful.
There are many more cars around at the moment as parents Drop and Go.
Getting back into routines has been challenging for us all however it has become very noticeable lately that we have quite a number of children who regularly arrive late to school. This can cause all sorts of problems as rolls have been marked and lesson begun.
Late arrival at school is often embarrassing or uncomfortable for the student, an interruption to the teacher and a disruption to the learning time of other students. Generally speaking, the first learning session is one of the most important in relation to children’s functioning ability (eg. alertness) and is when we focus on literacy and numeracy development. These two areas are the foundations of academic success.
We expect all children to be at school by the first bell at 8.55am. Classrooms are open then and the children are expected to get their things organised for the day ahead.“Be on time, be at school: that’s the rule.” The important message here for parents is that every time your child is late for school it is costing your child a learning experience, as well as interrupting the learning time for others. We ask for parent support in ensuring that we have ‘on time’ starts to the school day.
Should you find you are struggling to get here on time we would suggest leaving 10-15 minutes earlier, particularly on wet days.

OPPORTUNITY CLASS APPLICATIONS
For Yr 4 Parents
The process for 2021 OC applications has changed this year. Information will be sent through Newsflash and the App as we receive it.
This has been a challenging year for our students. They have managed the Covid 19 issue very well and the separation from school. For Yr 4 students the Opportunity Class process can be very stressful.
We ask parents to monitor student behaviour and talk to them about how the process works. We will be doing the same at school.
The most important thing here is that students understand that we care for them and love them regardless of the results of this process.
Dear Strings Parents,
Please note that all music rehearsals, whether it is with the tutor or group lessons or the ensemble rehearsals, these will all continue to be online until further notice. We will keep you updated if this changes.
The zoom links for ensemble rehearsals were sent on the weekend, please email your corresponding strings coordinator if you have not received this. Please check your spam/junk/promotions folders as the email may have ended up there.
If your instrument is out of tune, do not forget to have a look at these informative videos to help with string instruments. These videos will assist with how to tune and take care of the violin. These have been most helpful to ensure the violin is in tune during practice. Please watch with your child. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOP1ht4mHt0bLr-boSTZ9ig/featured
