CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Mrs Brooke Keevers who will take the position as Principal, Balgowlah North Public School, starting Term 3.
Mrs Keevers has made a significant contribution to the Artarmon Public School community and she will be greatly missed.
There will be a panel to advertise for the position with parent and teacher representation.
STUDENT REPORTS & PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
The school will be providing a modified report for all students at the end of Term. This is following guidelines set by the Department of Education.
We are waiting on advice from the Department as to when we will be able to provide Parent Teacher Interviews. As soon as we have the go ahead we will let everyone know.
Teachers are unable to provide Interview times at the moment and they are working hard on teaching learning programs following the Covid absences.
Encouraging your child to read at home
- Be yourself and involve your child in everyday conversations from an early age.
- Read aloud to your child. It will help your child to learn the language of books and encourage the enjoyment of books and reading.
- Talk about books together - make reading a shared, enjoyable activity.
- See that there is a range of reading material for your child at home, both fiction and non-fiction.
- Read to your child in your first language - research shows that using your first language will help your child when he or she learns to read English.
- Try not to let television intrude on reading time - set aside some uninterrupted time to read with your child.
- Listen to your child read every day, even if only for a short time.
- Give books as treats and presents.
- Discuss the meanings of stories and words.
- Join your local library. Borrow books for yourself as well as your child.

Student Tell Them From Me Survey
Years 4, 5 and 6 - Tell Them From Me student feedback survey
(Term 2, 2020)
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 15 June - 1 July. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school 15 June. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages.
Regards
Jono Coombes
Deputy Principal
For Yr 4 Parents
The process for 2021 OC applications has changed this year. Information will be sent through Newsflash and the App as we receive it.
This has been a challenging year for our students. They have managed the Covid 19 issue very well and the separation from school. For Yr 4 students the Opportunity Class process can be very stressful.
We ask parents to monitor student behaviour and talk to them about how the process works. We will be doing the same at school.
The most important thing here is that students understand that we care for them and love them regardless of the results of this process.
