TERM 4 GUIDELINES
Next week, the Department will provide us with updated guidelines in regards to end of year presentation days and school activities. We will communicate any updated changes over the coming weeks, and share with our community what this means moving forward for our end of year organisation.
CROSSING SUPERVISOR
We have had confirmation from the Council this week, that after years of hard work from the P&C and constant applications to the Council we have been approved for a crossing supervisor for before and after school each school day.
This is a great outcome for our school community and I would like to thank past and present P&C committees who have continued to work behind the scenes to get this outcome for us.
WALKATHON
No doubt everyone has been out doors walking around in preparation for the upcoming walkathon. It is imperative that students have plenty of practice and warm up their leg muscles to ensure a maximum number of laps can be completed in the time provided. Remember there are lots of prizes available, so keep searching for those sponsors and following rigorous stretching routines at home to ensure peak physical fitness!
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
We are getting very excited to have our 2021 Kindergarten students visit us on the 11th November. If you have not yet enrolled your child or know of anyone who is intending on starting in 2021, please have them contact the office as soon as possible so we can communicate all necessary information.
Parents of Kindergarten 2021 please ensure you have downloaded our Schoolzine App and subscribed to the group 'Kindergarten 2021'

WINNING HOUSE: |
The NSW Department of Education has a new policy for reporting about English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) students.
Please click on the link below to access a video presentation explaining the upcoming changes to reports for many students at Artarmon Public School.
On Tuesday 20th October, some excited Year 4 students visited the Field of Mars Education Centre to study as part of their Sustainability Science and Geography unit. The students investigated how the eucalyptus forest provides habitat for the ringtail possum and other native animals.
During this excursion Stage 2 students undertook a bush walk, traversing rocky outcrops through wet and dry eucalypt forest. Students investigated and recorded the characteristics of the forest, evidence of animals and their interconnection with the environment, recording their findings through sketching, mapping, watercolour and constructing data tables.
We were lucky with the weather and managed time for a picnic lunch and play. The students had a great day.
Stewart House Donation Drive is here! Stewart House is a short term respite care for children in need. Over 1800 children a year attend Stewart House which provides a 12 day program during which children attend a specific purpose school with infrastructure and staffing provided by the New South Wales Department of Education. During the program the children develop self-care and conflict-resolution skills as well as a broader outlook on life which increases their self-esteem. They will receive eye, dental, and health care and learn to overcome anxiety. The children establish routines and friends in a safe community. The Stewart House Donation Drive is asking that a $2 coin be placed in the envelope coming home with your child which will not only help Stewart House continue its work, but enable you to win a $4,000 holiday to a destination of your choice! The draw for the holiday prize will take place on Friday, 27 November 2020 at noon.
Envelopes should be returned to Artarmon Public School by Thursday, 5th of November 2020 and then they will reach Stewart House through the school.
Thank you!

Fundraising Committee
The envelope donation drive finished at the end of last term and was a tremendous success. Thanks to the very generous Artarmon School Community we were able to raise $23,417.50. This money will be put towards the purchase of shade cloths for the playground. Our main fundraiser for term 4 is the sale of our uniquely designed Artarmon Public School tea towels. Orders for the tea towels have now closed and I can confirm that we received orders for 1,040 tea towels at a sales value of $14,260. The order is now being printed and we can expect to receive delivery within 4 weeks. Thanks to everyone that has been involved in this project - can't wait to see the finished products when they arrive.

Dear Strings Parents
There a few exciting events coming up and we are happy to announce that all students who are part of the Strings Ensemble will be performing at Assembly during Term 4.
This will be a great opportunity for students to perform with their ensemble groups and to showcase what they have been working on during weekly rehearsals and tutorials.
We will be live streaming performances via Zoom so parents have the opportunity to see their child(ren) perform at Assembly (details will be sent out via email to Strings parents via coordinators).
The audition packs have been sent out via email, please let your coordinator know if you haven’t received this as yet. Please have the students practice the audition pieces and keep the sight reading and practice up.

Call out for Parent Volunteers
We are in need of parent volunteers
- Ideally two parent volunteer to assist the current Strings Instrument Coordinator and take over this role.
- two parent volunteers to assist current Strings Treasurer and take over this role.
Please see brief description below for the roles below.
Instrument Hire Coordinator The hire coordinator is responsible for maintaining the registry of all hire instruments. They facilitate the hiring of instruments throughout the year, including when students need to upgrade to the next size, and liaise with parents regarding maintenance and repairs. The hire coordinator issues hire invoices and communicates with the Convener and Treasurer regarding outstanding fees and repair costs. As the Instrument Library is still being established, the Hire Coordinator liaises with the Convener as to the on-going instrument needs of the library.
Treasurer The Treasurer issues invoices for ensemble fees at the beginning of the year and throughout the year as students join. They ensure all fees are paid and liaise with the Deputy Principal over outstanding fees. The Treasurer is responsible for an Income/Expenses report.
Please send me an email at strings.artarmonpandc@gmail.com if you are interested and are able to help out. This amazing program runs with parent volunteers, so many thanks for the parents that have helped out so far.
