END OF YEAR PICNIC
December, all students and staff from Artarmon Public School will be attending our end of year picnic. Picnic day is the day we all celebrate the end of the school year. There will be no other class parties held at school. This event is for teachers and students only; there are no opportunities for parents to come along.
Due to COVID restrictions, picnic day will be a little different to previous years. Students will picnic and play in stage groups, in the following locations-
Locations:
- Kindy- Abbott Road playground areas
- Year 1 & Year 2- McMillan playground areas
- Year 3 & Year 4- Thomson Park
- Year 5 & Year 6- Artarmon Reserve
Dress: Mufti clothing. Please ensure your child’s shoulders covered (no singlets) and they are wearing enclosed shoes (no thongs or open toed sandals). Students should be wearing their school hat, as it has great sun protection.
Please make sure your children have sunscreen applied before coming to school and more to use throughout the day.
Recess and Lunch: Children should bring their recess and lunch in a bag. This should include a water bottle. Food is not to be shared.
What to bring: Students may bring equipment to use or play with on the day; however, electronic equipment is not permitted. PLEASE REMEMBER- all equipment brought is the responsibility of the individual child. No enclosed tents allowed.
Teachers attending have CPR and emergency care training.
Picnic Day is a relaxing and fun way to celebrate the year and what a year it has been!

LEARNING SUPPORT REPORTS FOR STUDENTS
Congratulations to Naomi (4/5 NS). Outside of school, Naomi participated in the Lego League (FLL) competition. The FLL competition asks students to apply their STEM skills to participate in an innovation project. With her team, Naomi came in third place in the Sydney Regional and won the 2nd place Core Value award. Naomi has now been invited to compete in the upcoming national championship. Good luck Naomi!
Congratulations to Jayden (4PO) for winning both boys under 10s single and double championship at the Northern Beaches Tennis Tournament on the weekend.
Some outstanding results from our students!

Band Instrument Return & Rehire 2020 – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Return date: Thursday 10th December Rehire date: Friday 11th December
All hired band instruments must be returned to the music room on the morning of Thursday 10th December before the school bell from 8.30am to 8.55am (at the latest).
Junior, Concert and Senior band may leave instruments in the music storeroom (inside music room on right hand side) after their last band rehearsals in the week commencing 7th December if they are not required for Presentation Days.
Training band instruments must be returned on Thursday the 10th of December to the music room.
All instruments will be checked, and a stock take done. Any instruments requiring repair or service will be sent off over the holidays to the relevant repairer.
Please ensure the instrument is returned with all accessories (e.g. neck straps and harnesses, ligatures and mouthpieces).
On Friday 11th December we will call the students to the band room during the day, at a time according to their 2020 band, to collect their instruments. Please make sure your child is aware they will need to come to collect their instrument when called. If your child's hired instrument requires repairs, we will provide them with another suitable instrument if we have one available.
If your child does not collect their hired instrument on 11th December it will be stored securely over the holidays. We will let you know details for collection of these instruments at the start of next term.
Unfortunately, we cannot rehire instruments prior to 11th December as we have to book professional repairers to check them all and a team of volunteers to help organise. As you may appreciate with such a large number of instruments, this is a lengthy process.
If there are any other problems with returning or collecting instruments on the dates above, please contact the instrument coordinators at APSbandinstruments@gmail.com
Large instruments (tuba, euphonium, tenor and baritone sax)
Large instruments kept at home also need to be returned. We appreciate they are heavy and difficult for students to carry so parents may drop these to the school music room at the before school band rehearsals Monday 7th to Thursday 10th December 8.00-8.50 am. They should be available for pick up again on Friday 11th December between 8.30am and 2.55pm. If they are being sent for repair, the instrument coordinator will contact you.
COVID safety
Please ensure your child’s instrument is returned with their name on a label on the case (masking tape is fine). Any personal items such as reeds and cleaning cloths must be removed from the case, otherwise they will be taken out during stock take and disposed of.
Due to COVID, the majority of students will receive the same instrument back for 2021 unless it needs to go for repair or service in which case a clean replacement will be issued.
Band Committee Meeting
Our final Band Committee meeting for the year was held on Tuesday the 17th November at 7pm in the Music Room.
This is a busy time of year for band and we are currently in the midst of planning & preparing for 2021 and always welcome involvement/help from parents!
If you are interested in helping out with Band in 2021 please email band@artarmonpandc.org.au.
