WELCOME TO OUR WONDERFUL KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
What an amazing start our Kindergarten students have had at Artarmon Public School. They have been so settled in the classroom and playground, making friends and learning new things.
Thank you to our amazing parents for your understanding and cooperation with drop off and pick ups. The children have learnt new routines so quickly and we know that this is because of your help.
Morning drop off from next week will be a little different. Students will need to be dropped off at one of the school gates (Abbott Rd or Oval gate) and make their way to the kindergarten playground between 8:25am and 8:55am. No parents to come on site.
A teacher will be on duty in both areas, under the covered kindergarten play area and near the oval gate / toilet block. Teachers are there to keep students safe and remind them of the area they are to be in, if unsure.
Similar to the pictures below, all kindergarten students will line up in their classes at 8:55am under the covered outdoor learning area (COLA).
I would like to thank our amazing Kindergarten teachers for all the hard work they have put into creating such an environment to allow our students to thrive in the first week of school. They work tirelessly to ensure our children are safe and happy when at school learning.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2021 SPORT CAPTAINS
Today our new sport house captains were presented with their badges and sworn in to their official student leadership positions. We know they will do an amazing job supporting the students of Artarmon.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Our twilight swimming carnival will be held on the 22nd February from 4pm at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. All information regarding this carnival has been sent home via the SZapp.
NORTH SHORE ZONE PSSA
Artarmon is a delegate of the North Shore Zone PSSA. This organisation is run by teachers from each of the 15 schools that make up our Zone to deliver interschool sporting opportunities and competitive events for students to qualify for Regional, State and National level.
The North Shore Zone PSSA had to cancel our interschool Friday afternoon sport for Term One due to a number of reasons. All opportunities for students to advance to a higher level in their chosen sport will still go ahead and be communicated to students when the opportunities arise.
Our interschool sport competitions will start back up in Term 2 with students selected to represent Artarmon in Netball, Soccer and AFL.

Creative Kids Administration – Parent Volunteer(s) Needed
In 2021 the NSW Government will continue to contribute a $100 Creative Kids rebate for NSW residents. The Artarmon P&C is currently registered as a Creative Kids provider for the band and strings programs.
In order to offer this rebate to Band and Strings families in 2021, we need a parent volunteer to work with the continuing creative kids parent volunteer to help administer this process.
Together, the volunteers will process the Creative Kids vouchers with Service NSW, communicate with parents regarding any issues and record voucher payments received against Band and String invoices.
This process is busiest in Term 1, with a little bit of finishing up in Term 2 and then done for the year! The majority of the volunteering can be done in your own time on your own computer with internet connection.
If this volunteer role interests you, or you would like more details, please contact Kali at the band email (band@artarmonpandc.org.au).
Instrument Hire
If your child still needs to pick-up their hired instrument, it can be collected from the Music room before their band rehearsal.
Hire instruments are located inside the music storeroom (first door on right inside the music room) and are clearly marked with students’ names.
Upon collection of a hire instrument please review, complete and return the pink slip asap. These can be found inside the hired instrument case.
Parent Portal
Classes for 2021 have been confirmed and communicated to parents.
If your child is enrolled in Band, please log into the Parent Music Portal and update your child’s class details this week. This is important information we need for scheduling & communication purposes with the school.

For general questions, please refer to the Band Information Pack which is available in the Parent Portal and on the school website under Music Programs. Dear String Parents,
By now, the Junior Strings, Concert String and Senior String students are starting to get back into routine with Ensemble rehearsals recommencing this week as well as tutorials for all our existing students.
Welcome new Training String students, you will have now been starting group tutorials this week and hopefully learning how to hold the bow and instrument. Parents, please print out the care for your instruments and sign with your child and bring to next week’s tutorial classes. These are located in the Parent portal.
Training String Ensemble rehearsals commence in Term 2. This starts in Term 2, so the students will have learnt the basics of caring for their instrument, posture and being able to play before any ensemble rehearsal commences.
Update your child’s class details
Now that classes have been confirmed, please UPDATE your child’s class details on the parent portal. https://portal.msmusic.com.au/artarmonmusic
FAQs
Does my child need to have an instrument lesson every week?
Yes.
Every child in the strings program (and band program) has an instrument lesson every week. This is a requirement of the program.
Year 3 and all Training Strings – these children have small group tutorials, usually 3 or 4 students in the same room with the same teacher at the same time every week. Here they will learn scales, technique, note-reading, and small pieces.
Year 4 or higher ensembles – these students attend one-on-one, or private, lessons with one teacher. They will continue scales and exercises, and maybe plan for AMEB exams.
Ensembles – in addition to the lessons above, all students attend their regular larger groups that we call ensembles once a week. These times are listed below. These have about 30 children in them and they all learn the same piece, often in preparation for a performance throughout the year. Attendance at ensembles is compulsory. Mr Mansukhani is the conductor for all ensembles.
Does my child need to bring their instrument?
Yes, if you have either hired, have your own, you must bring your instrument to practice during group tutorials and ensemble rehearsals. This is also a good way for the tutors to check the instruments and tune them on a regular basis to keep the instrument at its best condition.
Does the instrument lesson need to be at Artarmon Public School?
No. You are welcome to go to instrument lessons with a tutor outside of the school, and some people prefer this if they want lessons after school. But your tutor will need to write a report twice a year.
