It has been another busy week at Artarmon with the new Year 5 2023 OC orientation on Monday and our third and final 2023 Kindergarten Orientation. Both were an amazing success and it was wonderful to welcome new and existing Artarmon families into our community. A huge thank you to our parent P&C multicultural volunteers this morning supporting our new families with language barriers and developing relationships and connections to our school. It was wonderful to see relationships building and new families getting to understand how a school works.
I was lucky enough over the last week to pop into some classrooms to ask the children what they were learning and also get them to teach me a few things along the way.
One of the most fascinating sessions was 'creative social play' in KIW. Here, I made it all the way to the floor to join a game of 'school' with the children where Mr Coombes was the Meerkat and the other teddies were students. We had great fun interacting and the students were learning to communicate, take turns and use their imagination.
When walking past a Year 5 classroom I was also drawn in by students building their problem solving skills to program the robots to complete set challenges. Although frustrating at times, a great activity for the students to collaborate together and come up with solutions.
CONGRATULATIONS FLAG WINNERS
Congratulation to these 10 talented artists from APS who were selected as winners of the Willoughby Council Festive Flags Competition. These students from Years 2-6 have been selected to have their flags featured throughout the Chatswood CBD during the holiday season in December and January.
CONGRATULATIONS TRISTAN
For the last four years, Tristan has been trying to win a particular competition named 'Wild At Art'. The purpose of the competition is to raise awareness of Australia's incredible but threatened plants and animals by creating an art work of choice.
This year, Tristan’s 'Wild At Art' entry has been selected as a finalist piece. With over 4600 entries this year and just 100 finalists.
An amazing achievement. See the website for more information
Here is Tristan's Tingle Pygmy Trap Door Spider. This species is endangered mainly due to its natural habitat being destroyed by bush fire.

ONLINE PARENT PORTAL - SCHOOL BYTES
For a number of years now our school fees and invoices have been sent out via email using the School Bytes finance system. More recently we have begun to create a paperless system for school permission notes and intend to maximise the systems ability as a centralised system for parent and student information.
School Bytes have now developed a Parent Portal that allows parents/carers to view payment history, outstanding fees, online permission notes and in future academic reports and more. This portal is now available for you to register and begin viewing your child / children's history and any outstanding fees.

NOT RETURNING OR RETURNING LATE IN 2023?
The first day of school for most students next year will be Tuesday 31st January, 2023. Year 5 OC students will begin on Wednesday 1st February, 2023 and new Kindergarten students will book their Best Start interview date before their first official day on Monday 6th February 2023.
It is vital that we know if your child/children will NOT be returning to Artarmon or will be returning late next year. Some families take extended holidays in January/ February and we need to know your return date so that your enrolment can be counted. This information will enable the school to plan for staffing and classing needs.
This note does not apply to Year 6 students.
Please click here to fill in the form if your child is not returning or returning late in 2023.
