North Shore PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival

Over 2 days last week, 65 of Artarmon’s best athletes competed against other schools in our sports Zone at the Sydney Academy of Sport Narrabeen.

On Thursday, the field events were held, as well as the 1500m race. There were many Personal Best efforts thrown and jumped. A huge congrats to Leon H (Yr 5), Jayden W (Yr 6) and Nathan S (Year 6) for placing in their respective events.

On Friday, the track events were held, and they were perfect conditions for competitive running. The following people achieved a place in their events. Our Junior Girls Relay placed 1st, Shiori F (Yr 6) 3rd in 1500m, and 2nd in the 800m. Trevor M (Yr 5) 3rd in 100m. Saim S (Yr 6) 3rd in the 100m. Jack D (Yr 6) came 2nd in the 800m.

I would like to recognise the performance by Audrey G (Yr 4) for her results at the Zone Carnival this year. 2nd in 1500m, 1st in the 100m, 3rd in the 800m, 3rd in the 200m, 3rd in the Shot Putt, 1st in the High Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump. These amazing results confirmed her as the Junior Girls Age Champion for 2023.

Good luck to all of our athletes who qualified for the Regional Carnival, which will be held in Term 4.

Tennis Knockout Semi Finals

“Let’s just try and win as many games as we can” said Leon to Maksim as they plodded down to the other end to serve, down 5 games to 2. Mhaira Gupta (5HW), Natalie Lee (6SJ), Leon Hoang (5TH) and Maksim Habarovs (6JM) took to the court in Port Macquarie to play Coorabell Public School in the state tennis knockout semifinals. There were many exceptionally close sets, including the girls doubles making it to a tiebreak at 6 games all! Other highlights included a close set for Maksim in his singles, taking nearly every game to deuce and Mhaira and Maksim getting a win in their doubles.

Unfortunately, we were battling powerful winds and a particularly strong team which meant we were pipped to the post by Coorabell. A special mention must be given to Mr Habarovs and Mr Lee for doing the 8 hour round trip with the students for ‘the love of the game’.

As always, Miss Borg was extremely proud of all four students who showed incredible sportsmanship, cheering hot shots from our team and the opposition. Well done team!

Girls Cricket Knockout Team Semi-finals Match Report

On the 4th of September, Artarmon Girls Cricket Team went to Artarmon Reserve to play against Normanhurst West Public School. This was our second match which we were playing as a team, so we were all super excited when we walked down to Artarmon Reserve.

With the amount of stretches we did prior to the match, I was worried someone would break a leg before we even started playing! Our vice-captain, Nishika unfortunately lost the toss, and we were asked to bowl and field first. The whole thing was very tense, but the whole team was very supportive of all of our bowlers. Congrats to Kriti for getting two wickets for the team and Divya for one. This meant that Normanhurst made a total of 149 for 3.

After a quick break, the second innings got underway and it was our turn to bat. Kudos to Nishika for getting 28 runs for the team! All of our batsmen did fantastic, and everyone gave each ball their 100%. Our final score came down to 97 for 8, which unfortunately meant we had lost.

While we are all sad, we learned a lot from the experience and hope to play cricket in the future. Thanks very much to Mr King for organising the match and taking us down to Artarmon Reserve.
