PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

In the spirit of reconciliation we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Reconciliation requires the Australian community to recognise and respect the First Peoples of this land, to acknowledge the past injustices, and the ongoing inequalities, experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since colonisation, and to commit to working towards a more equal and respectful future.

NSW CURRICULUM REFORM

If you have attended our P&C meetings over the last couple of years you would have heard us mention the changes to our NSW syllabus documents and the implementation phase of the new curriculum for our teachers and students. To support this work and changes in the school context, staff have been engaged in rigorous professional learning to ensure our programs, teaching practice and resources are designed and differentiated to ensure we are catering for all students at their level of challenge to engage with the content and concepts within the units.

Last week and this week to support this collaborative approach to programming and planning, grade teams have been timetabled a day to reflect on their practice linked to the new syllabus and ensure they are always planned and prepared to deliver the best possible lessons and units for our students.

This professional learning and time as a team, to reflect and plan together, is extremely valuable and ensures we as a staff and school are always working together for the best possible outcomes for our students.

SCHOOL PHONE NUMBER

As reported last week, the school phones were migrated to a Telstra SIP service, causing a temporary change in the number shown on our outgoing calls.

We are still currently waiting for Telstra to make a change on their end to bring back our main number, 9411 1950 to show up when we call you.

Currently, if the office tries to call you it will show up as 02 8440 7096

If you need to contact the school, please still call 9411 1950 and this will come straight through to the office.

We are not sure of the time frame for Telstra to return our main number when making outgoing calls.

Please add this number to your Artarmon PS contact list, so you know it is us if we call you.

WINTER HAS ARRIVED

As we officially enter the months of Winter it is wonderful to see our students in their winter uniform and wearing their school jumpers every day. Please take this opportunity to check your child's jumper is clearly labelled as our lost property pile is slowly building to become the highest point on the Lower North Shore.

We do not have staff members to go through each item as we put this responsibility back onto the students to be responsible for their belongings. Please help us to build the skill of responsibility into our students by reminding them it is their role to check the lost property area for any lost items and ensure they collect and look after their own belongings.

SEMESTER ONE ACADEMIC REPORTS + PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Our teachers have been working hard to compile student assessment data to complete your child's Semester One academic report. These reports will be uploaded to your SchoolBytes Parent Portal on Thursday 27th June and followed up with a parent teacher interview in Week 10.

Please ensure you read the article in this newsletter about how to book you parent teacher interview through the SchoolBytes Portal. The teachers are really looking forward to having some time to talk through your child's progress and attitudes to learning.

SYDNEY EISTEDDFOD

Congratulations to our music ensembles who have performed this week in the Sydney Eisteddfod at the Chatswood Concourse. Not only has Matthew our Band Director sung the praises of our students for their musical efforts, but I have heard nothing but exemplary reports of our students' behaviour and the way they conducted themselves on the train and at the event.

A huge thank you to Mrs Singh and all the P&C Parent volunteers for their support and effort to make this all happen.

We are looking forward to the String ensembles performing next week and wish them all the best.

CONGRATULATIONS TO TITUS!

At the end of last term, Titus represented Artarmon Public School at the NSW State Swimming Championship.

Titus not only won his 50m Freestyle event, but he broke the current State record and now holds a place in history as the fastest 9yr old boy to swim 50m in NSW with a time of 31.27 seconds.

This is a magnificent achievement and Titus was awarded a special framed certificate to commemorate this amazing achievement.

Look out Brisbane Olympics 2032, Titus is coming your way!

PSSA INTER-SCHOOL GALA DAY

On Friday 24th May we had our first Winter Gala day for the year. I was lucky enough to travel around to most of the venues and see the students participating in the day and it was great to see such a well organised event. The Gala Day model has been a huge success so far this year as we are seeing less travel time and the same amount of game time per season. Our second gala day for the term is next Friday 14th June.

Congratulations to all the students participating and the teachers for their organisation and coaching of all the individual teams.

HAMPDEN ROAD UPGRADE

A credit to our students for their maturity and sensible behaviour when travelling to and from school via Hampden Rd with all the upgrade works and changes to pedestrian routes. Hopefully not too much longer now, however as parents, please continue to talk to your children about being vigilant to changes and that they are following all the correct signs and being respectful towards all other members of the public when walking.

PARENTS ON SITE DURING SCHOOL HOURS

Please be mindful not to be on the school site during the day unless volunteering or visiting the office. As you would understand, student safety is always a priority for us and anyone on site must be signed in at the office.

If you are arriving to pick up your child in the afternoon and meet them in the playground, please do not come onto site until at least 2:45pm.
