The Arts Unit’s Primary Debating Workshop

On Tuesday, we arrived at Roseville to a bustling school filled with children laughing and smiling. We were escorted by Roseville Public students to their library where we spent the day learning and practicing debating. We met a man with a booming voice who lectured us on different debating techniques we mostly hadn’t learnt anywhere else.

Most of the day was spent with him teaching us new things and practicing our new learnt debating skills. We learnt many things, including the 3 M’s (Matter, Manner and Method), and we learnt about the PEEL structure from a debating perspective, something most of us had never done before.

At the end of the day, we applied those newly learnt skills to make our own PEEL paragraph and we presented it in front of other students, and we received valuable feedback from professional adjudicators.

Overall, we all had an amazing experience learning and presenting in an environment where everyone had an equal opportunity to learn about debating.
