Year 4 Sea Life Excursion
On Monday and Tuesday, Year 4 visited Sea Life in Darling Harbour as part of our Geography unit on the natural environment and pollution. Students were able to see a variety of sea animals in various environments and hear about the damaging effects of pollution on underwater and coastal environments. There was also time for a boat ride around the penguin habitat as well as some outdoor fun at the local park. Thank you to our dedicated parent helpers for supporting us on the excursion.
4KA explores colour and process
In a recent art lesson, 4KA used Dale Harding’s The Leap as inspiration in creating their artwork. Dale took soil from his country and used it to make paint. He then used traditional blowing techniques to create his art to represent his cultural heritage.
Students were encouraged to think about an event or place that represented their own cultural heritage and create an artwork in a colour that represented that place or event.
4CH poetry
As part of our poetry study, 4CH used a poem about a boy being late for school as inspiration for our own poetry. We examined the structure of the poem along with words and phrases used to create imagery for the reader. We also examined the illustrations that went with the original poem and created our own images that helped support the imagery and symbolism in our own poems.
4SA artwork
4SA experimented with the blending of watercolours to create vibrant flowers in the style of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe.
Rubbish Study
4SK have been studying the impact litter has on the environment. They went to the oval at the same time on multiple days and collected data on the different types of litter they found. The next step for 4SK will be to create a map that shows exactly where they found the litter so they can work on building a robot design with a suitable feature that will assist with the removal of rubbish in the area.
4NR a work in progress...
A sneak peak at our auction artwork. Students have designed a silhouette to go with their Geography research. We are then converting them to 3D models and printing them out. They will then be placed in the frame on pegs with an ocean background.
