EAL/D REPORT CHANGES
Changes to Academic Reports for all EAL/D students
When enrolling your child at Artarmon Public School, you were asked to indicate if your child has a language base other than English (LBOTE). This could mean that a different language is spoken within the home or one parent comes from a different language background.
Students who are identified as LBOTE at enrolment, are then assessed by a specialised English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) teacher and their language proficiency is determined. This information is then recorded in our school system as part of your child’s enrolment.
There are four levels of language proficiency. Each has an average time listed that indicates how long students typically take to progress to the next level.
The current NSW Department of Education policy states that the reports of all EAL/D students must include information about their English language proficiency, including-
- their EAL/D Learning Progression phase
- a comment about the student’s progress in learning English
- information about how the student’s English language learning has been supported
More information about these changes and how they may impact on your child’s report will be sent in Term 4.
