PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to teachers, students and families. Welcome also to all new families joining the Artarmon school community. This year looks like being a very busy and enjoyable one and we are all looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Our new hall will be officially opened on Friday 22 February at 9.30am and promises to be a very special occasion. More information will come soon.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR 2019

Staff Development Days 2019 – school will be non-operational on the following dates:

Monday 29 April

Monday 22 July

Thursday 19 December

Friday 20 December

Last day for students 2019 is Wednesday 18 December. The school office will be closed from that date and reopen on 29 January.

NEW STAFF

Welcome to Mr Sherley, Ms Winchester and Mrs Stanistreet who have joined the staff as permanent teachers.

School Communication

The Schoolzine App and Newsflashare the one source of information for families, please take the time to read the Newsflash each week as it contains all the information you need to know to keep up-to-date with what is happening around the school. The Schoolzine app is also a great resource for keeping in touch. Grades will provide information to parents as required. Please make sure you read these as we are a large and complex school and

it is easy to miss things if you don’t keep on top of school communication.

2019 CLASSES

On Friday this week students will take home a letter confirming their class and teacher for 2019.

Attached to this letter will be the link to book your Parent Teacher Interview time. Please check the dates and times carefully to avoid attending on the incorrect night.

Food Allergies

We have a number of students at Artarmon Public School who suffer from food allergies. For some students their allergies can be life-threatening. Therefore, our number 1 rule is NO FOOD SHARING. Whether your child suffers from a food allergy or not it is important that they are aware that they are not to give or take food from another student. Please do not send birthday cakes as we can celebrate birthdays in anumber of ways that do not involve food.

Please do not send any nut products to school with your child. Whilst we cannot guarantee a nut free school, it would be appreciated if you consider the safety of other students and keep these products to enjoy at home.

BOOK PACKS

Last chance to order book packs online. Orders close on the 7th of February.  Books will arrive at school on Monday 11 February for distribution to students. If you have not already done so, please order your book packs by tomorrow for delivery on Monday.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Can I please remind parents school times are 8.55am – 2.55pm. For Kindergarten the times are 8.55am – 2.45pm.

Students should not be at school prior to 8.25am unless they are involved in extracurricular activities. Supervision by teachers begins at 8.25am.

It is important that students are in class on time and are picked up from school on time.

Occasionally you might get held up in the mornings and arrive late. If this is the case students must come to the school office with a parent before going to class.

Students are not to be dropped off after starting time and left at the front gate. We are all aware that traffic is a problem around the school, so please make allowances for this when planning your travelling time.

GENERAL PERMISSION NOTE

Each year a general permission note goes home with each student asking for parent consent for children to walk to Artarmon Reserve for sport and class activities. Also included are the scripture preferences and the computer use policy. It is important that this note is returned to your child's classroom teacher as soon as possible.

ARTAMON PS SCHOOL UNIFORM

An important part of being a member of our school community is wearing appropriate school uniform. Uniforms define our school identity, promote a sense of belonging for our school community and promote positive perceptions of our school within the wider community. They are required for excursions throughout the year and are designed to be the best fit for specific daily school activities. Our P&C fully support the wearing of the school uniform.
