Congratulations to our music groups!
It has been wonderful to see our band and string groups go to Chatswood this week to compete in the Sydney Eisteddfod. The students were so professional in the way they conducted themselves and represented the school. Makes you feel very proud to be apart of our school.
Results so far!
Senior Strings - 3rd, Concert Strings - 1st, Junior Strings - Highly Commended, Orchestra - 1st, Concert Band - 1st, Senior Band - 3rd, Jazz Band - Awaiting results.... (only performed this morning)
A huge thank you to you to our P&C Band and String committee, Mr Mansukhani and Mr Walmsley and Ms Wolski for coordinating the event as well as the many parent helpers that helped with transporting large instruments and the train trips.
It is great to be back on the stage!
CELEBRATE STUDENT SUCCESS
Today I was excited to have a visit from some Year 4 students who had been writing about a local endangered species named the 'Greater Glider'. Some amazing writing for you to read to help do your bit to save this species. Enjoy!
NEW TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATION OFFICE
As of Monday next week, our administration and executive leadership team will be moving to a temporary location until the upgrade of our admin area and staff room are complete. The new administration area is located next door to the uniform shop as you enter the school through the bottom gate on McMillan Rd.
Are there any changes to how we access the admin staff and school?
- All enquiries as normal, including collecting children from sick bay, signing in as a visitor or signing your child into or out of school will be from this location.
- Please treat this temporary office as you would the old one.
My child's classroom is located above the office. Will this impact them?
- Year 1 classrooms above the office area will not be impacted. The only change is access to their classrooms.
- All Year 1 children will access their classroom, morning and afternoon from the stairs located in the McMillan Playground, not the front stairs facing McMillan Rd.
- Pick up and drop off locations for Year one students will still be on the McMillan Playground.
Will access to the front of the school be impacted?
- The main gate and bottom gate on McMillan Rd will still be available for students to access the school.
- The front section of the school between these two gates will be fenced off for safety.
- This will not impact students arriving or exiting the school.
- The 'Kiss and Drop' zone at the front of the school will not be impacted.
When will the project be completed?
- The goal is to be back in the new administration area for the start of Term 4.
- We will keep you informed to any changes as they arise.
CONGRATULATIONS MATTHEW!
An amazing achievement for Matthew Fang to be selected and represent Sydney North at the recent NSW State championships for Basketball. With such a small number of students chosen in the team, we are so proud of Matthew and his success in the sport and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.
I asked Matthew to share with us all his experience.
Matthew Fang:
From Tuesday the 31st of May to Friday the 3rd of June, I was at Tamworth Sports Dome representing Sydney North in the NSW Basketball State Championships. Sydney North was the winner in 2021 and we were aiming for back to back champions. There were a total of 14 teams for the boys and 14 for the girls with each team consisting of 10 players which amounted to roughly 280 boys and girls in this entire competition. On the first day (Tuesday) we played Sydney West and beat them 49-33. I also scored a buzzer beater this game. Then, we played South Coast and won 55-28. On the second day, Wednesday, we played Hunter, beating them 53-31. Then we won against Polding 43-25. To start things off for day 3, we smashed Western 75-13 and then ended up beating North coast 51-18.
NORTH SHORE ZONE CROSS COUNTRY
State Library Recount
By Scarlet and Yara in 5LS
“1, 2, 3..” our teacher counted, one by one letting us onto the bus. It was a race to the back seat, with only a few lucky people succeeding. Soon the bus was full and our class shouted with excitement as we drove away, for we knew we would all be having an excellent time at the State Library in the city!
We entered the library and waited a minute or two, until a very nice lady showed up, directing us to a new spot to meet our instructor Andrea. We set off, looking around with amazement at the vast study halls and magnificent artworks, but that wasn’t even the best part! We twisted and turned through the ginormous building, until we reached a very empty hallway with a cupboard and one very large digital artwork. We stowed our valuables away in the cupboard before experiencing some magic. The digital artwork slowly opened, revealing a walkway behind it! Excitedly, we walked inside, whispering to each other of the marvels on the walls. There were hats, maps, a boomerang and many more breathtaking and unbelievable objects put out. But we think you will be surprised when we say there were very rare and genuine photos on the walls and clothes from the times of the gold rush, laid out neatly on tables around the room.
Andrea sat us down and we had a short discussion about the gold rush. She then revealed the true reason we were visiting today: we were going to dress up and pretend to be a character from the 1850’s! We were going to make a short movie. There were some really important steps to get this right, so we had to listen really carefully. We partnered up, selected a costume each and got dressed. Our partner snapped a great picture of us and we edited the photos so they were black and white.
The final step to bring our characters to life was to think of a script and make our characters “speak” through voice recordings and animations, we saved it so that Andrea could send it back to school for us.
On behalf of year 5 we say thank you to Ms Donohoe for giving us a fun and educational excursion, it is probably the best one we’ve ever been on!

Whoosh! The time travelling superhero has turned the tables!
On Thursday, the 9th of June, students are given the opportunity to dress as teachers and vice versa. On that day students are encouraged to bring a gold coin to support families across flood impacted Australia in recovering from the recent floods through GIVIT (https://www.givit.org.au/appeals/givit-together/nsw-flood-appeal). Students can dress up as a teacher they know (Miss Borg, Miss Harrington or Mr Coombes), a fictional teacher (Mrs Trunchbull, Miss Honey or Dumbledore) or just a teacher in general. The SRC’s dedicated work has meant that our school can change the lives of people who need it in a fun, creative and enjoyable way.
-Brought to you by the SRC and student leadership team

Double Bass Player Wanted!!
Artarmon's String Programme is looking for students who may be interested in learning the wonderful Double Bass. It is a beautiful instrument which makes a majestic sound and helps enhance the depth of every string ensemble. Bass students may one day also try out for the school's Jazz Band and Orchestra! In addition, every high school orchestra and string ensemble will be seeking bass players!
We have a wonderful bass tutor - Miss Emily Green - who will be able to offer lessons to your child at school. No prior musical experience necessary (bass guitarists will have a huge advantage though!). Students will be issued with 2 bass instruments - one for home use and one for school use, therefore there is no need for constant instrument transportation.
If you child is interested, please contact our string convenor and Mr Mansukhani will organise a tryout for your child.
