NSW CHAMPIONS
On Monday afternoon I was lucky enough to be able to drive to Sydney Olympic Tennis Centre to watch our four talented young tennis stars compete in the NSW State PSSA final against Parks Public School. Not only were there some great serves, rallies, drop shots and returns but there was outstanding sportsmanship, honesty and fairplay. Both teams played exceptionally well and when speaking to the teacher from Parkes, I was told this is their students first time ever playing on a hard court. They are use to only clay courts and keeping score by scratching it in the dirt using their feet.
An amazing effort from our team who walked away at the end of the day with the title of NSW PSSA Tennis Champions! A achievement they will never forget. Keep an eye out for these talented young kids on the main stage in a few years.
AFTER SCHOOL PICK UP
Students are unable to stay at school unsupervised at the end of the day and play with their friends before heading home. It is a duty of care issue that when dismissed at the end of the school day, students need to leave the school grounds to either meet their parents or travel home as agreed with their parent/ guardian. There is no teacher supervision and if an accident were to occur, their is no one around to help.
SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL
Earlier this year, many of our Year 6 students sat the Selective High School Placement Test. Over the last few days, results have been sent to families.
Every child and their family regardless of their result, should feel proud of their child’s efforts on the day and their commitment to preparing themselves and having a go. Well done to all participating students!
BOOK WEEK - DREAMING WITH YOUR EYES OPEN.
Even though we will celebrate with costumes and fun later in the term, please take the time this week to sit down with your child or children and enjoy quality time reading together and building the love of literature. Talk together about books and celebrate together as a family. We are looking forward to having some fun with costumes and books as a school at the end of the Term. Start planing what your costume might be! See the link here to view the winning books for 2022 https://cbca.org.au/winners-2022
For Artarmon Public School’s belated Book Week celebrations, all K-6 students are encouraged to dress up as a book character or dress to the theme ‘Dreaming with eyes open’ on:
Wednesday 21 September 2022
If students choose not to dress as a book character, they can wear their normal school uniform. Please note, the costume does not need to be too elaborate. We would encourage parents to use dress-up clothes from home for the event.
Students are also encouraged to bring their book along to school with them if possible.
K – 2 Parents are invited to attend: K - 2 Book Week Character Parade
When: Wednesday 21 September 2022
Time: 10:00am
Where: McMillan Playground
2022 was another excellent year for the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge at Artarmon Public School.
571 students registered to take on the challenge of reading between 20 – 30. Well done to our 368 students who succeeded. Thank you to all members of our school community who supported students to participate in this important initiative. Certificates of achievement will be issued in Term 4.

PERMISSION NOTE UPDATE- Last call for notes!
Strings Uniform
-On the note that went home (23.08.22), there was some outdated information regarding the 'Strings Uniform'
Music Uniforms-Band and Strings are as follows:
- White point-collar long sleeved shirt (NOT the winter blouse for girls)
- black formal pants,
- black socks, and
- black school shoes;
- Music Tie
White collared shirts and pants are available from the school uniform shop or may be purchased elsewhere e.g. Kmart, Lowes etc. Music tie, only available from school uniform shop - $20. Please purchase a music uniform prior to the concert.
There has been some confusion around who to return the permission notes to. 'Group Leaders' refers to the leader of the ensemble. The group leaders need to be aware of who is attending the Concourse Concert so that they know numbers and formations for the night. If your child is in more than one ensemble, there are 2 'return slips' on the permission note that can be given to both leaders. If they are in more than 2, they can come and get an extra note or a handwritten note from home will suffice. Group leaders for each ensemble are listed below:
Band- Mr Walmsley
Strings- Mr Mansakhani
Guitar- Lan Zhong
Jnr Dance- Mrs Stanistreet or Mrs Ekas
Snr Dance- Ms Gallagher and Ms Winchester
Year 2 Choir- Ms Mullens, Ms Wickens and Ms Mendes
Kameraigal Choir- Ms Marshall, Mr Oriel and Mrs Sestak
