Its hard to believe that it is already Week 8 and there are only two and a half weeks left of the term before we break for the July holidays. Teachers have been working overtime to prepare your child's Semester One academic reports and are looking forward to meeting with you during Week 10 Parent Teacher Interviews to unpack, in more detail, your child/childrens' learning progress and work habits. If you have not booked your one on one interview time yet, please check the SZapp for details. If you are having any difficulty with booking, please contact the office for assistance.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Face to Face or Phone call: Please remember, if you have booked a face to face interview and on the day you feel unwell or have any cold or flu symptoms, please contact the office and we will organise for the teacher to call you at your scheduled time.
LOST PROPERTY: If your child has come home without their jumper or hat and you are constantly having to remind them to find it, please send them to look in the lost property pile near the music room.
On Tuesday next week, we will have all the lost property laid out on the McMillan tables from 8am to make it easier for families to find lost items. After this, all items will be given to the 2nd hand uniform shop.
P&C AGM: Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our P&C AGM either in person or via Zoom. It was great to be able to spend some time talking about what has been happening in the school as well as hear from our amazing P&C committees and volunteers.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our departing P&C executive, Malvina Crastin, Tiffany Fraser and Jackie Sternfeld. These three women have led the P&C and supported our students and community for the last three years, through, what we know, has been one of the most trying times in recent years. What Malvina, Tiffany and Jackie have achieved in this time is to be commended. Everything they accomplished was with the students best interest in mind and to build back a safe, supportive and welcoming school community. The support, appreciation and value they placed on our teachers and non teaching staff was incredible. I know I speak for everyone when say THANK YOU! Please know that everything you put your time and energy into has had a significant impact on our school culture and community feel which directly impacts each and every student in our school.
I would also like to take this time to say thank you and welcome to our new P&C Executive. We are looking forward to working with you to continue supporting our students and community.

Please talk with your children at home about the importance of being alert and road safe when they are walking to and from school.
Also a timely reminder of our mobile device policy which is 'off and away' any mobile device including smarty watches are not to be worn or used during school hours. If your child needs a device it is to be turned off and put away during school hours
SCHOOL PHOTOS: School Photos that were taken in Term One will be arriving at school in the coming days and should make their way home to you before the holidays. Information on ordering group and extra curricular photos will be shared through the Szap soon.
During Term Two, students from Stages Two and Three were invited to participate in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition run by the Arts Unit. This competition encourages primary school students to explore ideas of multiculturalism in Australia while they practise their public speaking skills and improve their confidence! Congratulations to all students who prepared and presented speeches for this event.
Two students from each stage were selected to compete in the local finals at Mowbray Public School involving both prepared and impromptu speeches. A huge congratulations to these students for representing Artarmon Public School so commendably, both in the presentation of their speeches as well as their attitudes and behaviour on the day.

5IW Aboriginal Incursion
To celebrate the upcoming NAIDOC week, we had an Aboriginal incursion, held by Muru Mittigar. Every day a different grade went to participate in the activities where we learnt Aboriginal culture, histories and perspectives.
The day started with a smoking ceremony, which the Aboriginals traditionally believe could cleanse the bad spirits from the body and soul. It was enjoyable and made us think deeply about the Aboriginal culture and their important practices.
The first activity was art, where we learnt about Aboriginal symbols and art styles and how traditionally Aboriginals communicated via rock art. We then created our own dreamtime story. We all loved how we could manipulate and create an entirely new story just from a few symbols.
The next activity was boomerang throwing. We threw boomerangs and learnt how they worked. We enjoyed throwing them as we could learn the aerodynamics of the boomerang when it came back to hit the prey. The teachers also got to have a go!
We also learnt about Aboriginal artefacts. We learnt how the Aboriginals traditionally hunted and how they used tools to find food and create things to use in their everyday lives. We got to touch and feel a variety of tools such as woomeras.
Finally, we learnt about bush tucker and how the Aboriginal people traditionally used plants and animals for eating, drinking and healing. The fauna and flora we saw had many interesting capabilities, like the lemon myrtle, which could heal sore throats.
Overall, the experience was very enjoyable and informative. We learnt a lot about Aboriginal culture and why we should work to protect it.
Many thanks for coming Muru Mittigar!

WINNING HOUSE: Flynn |
NSW Sydney North Cricket Knockouts
Game Between: Artarmon P.S. vs. Neutral Bay P.S.
Venue: Forsyth Park
Date: 13 June 2023 (12:00 pm)
Toss Won By: Neutral Bay (elected to bowl)
Result: Neutral Bay defeated by Artarmon
Score: 9/41 (Neutral Bay) vs. 6/112 (Artarmon)
By: Samay Gowing and Shubham Grover
Artarmon P.S. have had another convincing victory. We played Neutral Bay and are now in the quarterfinals. We arrived early for the game, at 11:30 am, expecting a thriller. We had to bat first and Shubham Grover and Arjun Mulik opened the batting. They started well but once Arjun’s wicket fell, other wickets fell quickly. After some slogging by our lower-order batsmen at the end, we finished the innings with 6/112.
Arjun Mulik: 10 runs
Shubham Grover: 22 runs
Cooper Watt: 21 runs
Samay Gowing: 7 runs
Jack Watt: 0 runs
…
Neutral Bay came out to bat requiring 113 runs for victory. Samay Gowing went in to bowl first with blistering pace, keeping the batsmen on their feet. Arjun came in next to bowl and took two wickets. Samay came back in and took two more wickets. Jack Watt took a wicket and after a couple more overs they were 9/41. Neutral Bay quickly forfeited after such a dominant display by Artarmon P.S.
Samay Gowing: 2 wickets
Arjun Mulik: 2 wickets
Jack Watt: 1 wicket
Ojas Gunanji: 1 wicket
Aharshi Majumdar: 1 wicket
Cooper Watt: 1 wicket
Cooper Watt: 1 runout
Artarmon awaits our next match against Waitara P.S. and are full of hopes. We hope for the best!
On Tuesday 9th May, the Green Team launched NUDE FOOD TUESDAY at Artarmon Public School. Every Tuesday, students have been encouraged to bring food without single use packaging.
It’s been exciting to see students get behind this initiative, with some classes achieving 100% nude food on Tuesdays! Every fortnight, classes in Year 3-6 with the most nude food have been awarded the Green Team award during Stage assemblies. We are pleased to announce the following award winners for Term 2:
Week 4
Stage 2: 4CW and 4LM
Stage 3: 5TH
Week 6
Stage 2: 4LM and 4JD
Stage 3: 5TH
Week 8
Stage 2: 4CW and 4JD
Stage 3: 5TH and 5PO
With only one week more to go, we look forward to announcing the Term 2 Green Team winners of the special movie lunchtime for those classes that have achieved the most nude food over the term. A special mention goes to 5TH who have averaged 95% of the class with nude food over the term so far. Well done, 5TH and well done to Artarmon Public School! We’ve taken a huge step towards reducing waste in the playground and the environment.
The Green Team look forward to extending NUDE FOOD TUESDAY to the whole school in Terms 3 and 4.
Kind Regards,
Green Team
Congratulations to the following students who have recently completed the Challenge!
