NSW PSSA CHAMPIONS!
History has been made! Congratulations to Mr. Beard and the team of girls who have worked so hard this year, playing numerous matches in the NSW PSSA State Knock-out competition, and ultimately making it to the finals in Bathurst yesterday to claim the championship.
This is an incredible achievement, and one to be immensely proud of.
As principal, I couldn't have been prouder watching these amazing young women play together, showing such strong support for one another while playing some truly exceptional cricket.
In the final match against Kempsey East PS, our girls batted first, posting an impressive score of 0/176 off 25 overs. Our team then bowled Kempsey East out for just 28 runs in 11 overs. An outstanding result!
A huge thank you to the parents and Mr. Beard for their tireless work in organizing and travelling with the team throughout the season to make this victory possible.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
What a fantastic experience it was to spend Friday dancing around, spraying colour on all of your children for a few hours. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter as they came through the rainbow tunnel was simply priceless. Thank you to our entire school community for generously contributing to raise funds for new classroom technology and learning resources. The total amount raised was $30,500
A special thank you as well to all the parents who came to watch, take photos, and share them with the school. Some of these beautiful moments have been featured in the gallery below.
I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Ms. Wong, Ms. Harrison, Ms. Choi, and Ms. Schmidt for their hard work in planning, organizing, and executing this event. There was so much behind-the-scenes effort involved, and I truly can't thank them enough.
REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY
Last week, our school gathered for a special Remembrance Day assembly to pause and reflect on those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The service was thoughtfully planned and led by our student leaders, who did an outstanding job guiding the school through a meaningful time of reflection and remembrance.
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
We also held our third Kindergarten orientation session last week for our newest members of Artarmon, and it was wonderful to see them settling in and excited to start Big School in 2025. A big thank you to our amazing parent community for supporting the new parents with uniform guidance and for providing assistance through our multicultural community members, offering help with questions and translations. It’s heartwarming to witness how we always come together to support one another. Thank you!
NEW PERMANENT POSITION
Congratulations to Mr Beard who was successful in gaining a permanent classroom teacher position at Artarmon PS.
As reported in the news, there is a scheduled TRAIN STRIKE this Friday, November 23rd. Please be mindful that an alternate method of transport will be required if your child takes the train to school, and for those who drive their children, there might be traffic delays to and around the school.

Oz Tag
On Friday of Weeks 3 and 4, Stage 3 students participated in their Term 4 Gala Days for Oz Tag. Students travelled to Blackmans Park in Lane Cove, where they spent the day playing matches against other local schools. All students had a great time and were able to practice their skills and improved over both the days. A special congratulations to Girls Team 1 and Boys Team 1 for advancing to the semi-finals in Week 4! The Boys Team 1 competed in their Final in Week 3, displaying incredible effort, though they narrowly missed securing the win. Throughout the Gala Day, every student showed great sportsmanship and teamwork.
KINDERGARTEN EXCURSION - BOTANIC GARDENS
Kindergarten Botanic Gardens Excursion
On Tuesday during Week 3 and Week 4, Kindergarten were lucky enough to spend a day exploring the Botanic Gardens of Sydney. As part of the Science curriculum, students explored the amazing world of plant and animal habitats in the Gardens and discovered the characteristics and needs of living things. Some of the activities included a nature scavenger hunt, constructing an animal habitat and planting a bulb to take back to the classroom. The weather was wonderful and the students thoroughly enjoyed their day.
K-6 English as an Additional Language / Dialect (EAL/D) program
One of the greatest strengths of Artarmon is its fantastic and diverse multicultural community. In 2023, 86% of students at Artarmon identified as having a language background other than English. In other words, either they or at least one of their parents, speak a language other than English at home.
Artarmon’s EAL/D program involves teachers working closely with small groups of students from EAL/D backgrounds to build on the work they are doing in the classroom. In Term Four, students in K-2 have been developing their English language learning through speaking, listening, reading and writing activities.

Year One with Ms Wong
Year Two with Mrs Hewitson
Miss Marshall’s EAL/D groups in Years 3 to 6 have been working on descriptive writing. Earlier this term, they looked at Jeannie Baker’s book Window that uses pictures to tell the story of a boy and his garden changing through the years.
Year 3 students described the first picture (above), where the boy is a baby.
Year 4 students wrote about a second picture, where the boy is two years old.
Years 5 and 6 students wrote about another picture, where the boy is four.

Last week of borrowing!
Students have their last opportunity to borrow next week (Week 7). All books will need to be returned by Monday 9 December. This will allow plenty of time for our books to come back to school before the Summer school holidays and before our Year 6 students move onto high school!
Overdue Reminder Notices
Overdue notices will be sent home via email. This is a reminder to return books only. No payment is expected unless the books are lost or damaged. If you believe you have received a notice in error, please contact the library and we will investigate the matter.

Applications are now open for 2025 Student Opal cards on Transport for NSW website. We encourage parents and carers to apply now to make sure their children receive their School Opal card before the start of the 2025 new school year.
Getting to school by bus in 2025
Will your child be catching the bus to school next year? Applications are now open for 2025 School Opal cards. As it’s a busy time of year, we highly recommend you make this application before the end of this year. It’s also good to check the bus timetable to make your child’s journey to school as easy as possible. Here is how it works:
School Opal cards
- All students catching the bus in 2025 will need a School Opal card.
- Under the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS), eligible students can apply for free or subsidised travel between home and school.
- For more information about the SSTS and how to apply for a School Opal Card, visit https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/#/ from a desktop computer, and click 'apply for a school travel pass'.
Bus timetables
Busways is the school bus operator that runs your schools’ bus services. To find your child’s school bus timetable visit the Busways website by using the following steps:
- Go to busways.com.au/nsw
- Click on ‘school services’ in the navigation bar and then proceed to ‘school timetables’
- Enter the school’s name in the field that says ‘enter a school name’
- Select the school’s name and the timetable should open on your device. If you are unable to find or search for the school’s name, use the drop-down menus on the same web page to find the school.
- Once the timetable is opened, you will be able to identify which school bus services are available in your area for your child to use.
Our annual Carol’s Night will be taking place Friday 6th December 2024. All music groups and choirs will be performing on the night. Orders for food can be made through the link below. Orders close 5pm Friday 29th November.
