WELCOME BACK
Welcome back to Term 2 and a very busy term it will be. I hope you all had a peaceful and happy Easter break.
This is a term for students and teachers filled with teaching/learning, assessments and reporting. Parents and caregivers should be proud of the effort that children at Artarmon put into their learning.
SWIMMING AGE CHAMPIONS 2019
SPECIAL EMAIL
As educators we do not often receive positive feedback but this week we received an email from an ex student. He was a school captain here at Artarmon and is now studying medicine at University. In his email he thanked the school for all it had done for him and mentioned many teachers who had supported him. I have included a small excerpt from his email.
".....The school has always held a special place in my heart. I am forever indebted and eternally grateful to you and all the wonderful teachers who worked so hard to enrich our learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
I hope that the students know how lucky they are to come to school here. Not just because of the state-of-the-art facilities, but because Artarmon Primary is truly a school like no other. The children should know that the sheer breadth of opportunities, exceptional teachers and an incredibly strong community connection are not to be taken for granted. I have always felt that this place is one of warmness, acceptance and nurturing. When I first came for my orientation in the old school hall, I think you spoke of Artarmon students being the happiest in the state. This was exactly my experience and I am so grateful for it......."

ARTARMON PUBLIC SCHOOL VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS |
For many years Artarmon Public School has provided educational resources of a superior quality for our students. Annually the voluntary contributions supplement the basic level of resources provided by the NSW Department of Education: specialist teacher support, purchase of stationery, readers, maths resources, music equipment, library books and sports equipment. Voluntary Contributions have added between $100 000 - $180 000 worth of quality resources that make a difference each day in every classroom, Kindergarten to Yr 6, which we would otherwise be unable to purchase.
$100 000 of the Voluntary Contributions funds a Learning Support Teacher. This position is used to provide additional time to students needing extra support in their learning. The majority of this time is used for Reading and Writing and also Mathematics.
The school is required to report the amount collected and what it has been used for at P&C meetings and in the Principal’s report. Further information regarding the DoE Policy and Code of Conduct for the collection of voluntary contributions is available on the DoE website.

Learning Support Teacher $100,00.00
K-2 Readers $6199.00
Mathematics Resources K-6 $8500.00
Sport Equipment $2500.00
Technology $56,458.00
TOTAL $173657.00
Voluntary contribution fees The amounts requested for the 2019 are: $250 for 1 child $300 for 2 children $350 for 3 or more children.
Each family will be invoiced for $250. If you are paying more or less you can change the payment amount using our online payment system. |
Frequently asked questions What is the Voluntary Contribution ? NSW Schools ask parents for a financial contribution to assist the school in providing all the resources we would expect or wish our children to enjoy.
How much does it cost ? We recommend a minimum contribution of $250 for one child, $300 for two children or $350 for three or more children. You can pay more or less than the suggested amount. How do I pay? The Voluntary Contribution will be attached to the Student Invoice at the beginning of Term 2. How can I pay it? The contribution is voluntary. Last year we raised $167 767.00 through parent contributions which are vital in helping to fund equipment, classroom resources and educational support that the school needs. We hope you help us supporting the school in this way in 2019. Don’t I already pay school fees? There are different ways that the school and P&C combine to to support our students: · Voluntary Contributions – these are given to the school and reported on at P&C Meetings, Newsflash and through the website. · P&C Fundraising – Each year Yr 3 parents organise fundraising activities. They decide at the beginning of the year what they would like to fund for the school · Student Invoices – the invoices cover costs like excursions, incursions and some curriculum materials.

Is your Band Uniform ready for Sydney Eisteddfod Performance?
Next month (June) all bands except Training Band will be performing at Sydney Eisteddfod. Students will perform in band uniform. This uniform is black trousers, white band shirt (with pointy collar), band tie, black socks and shiny black school shoes (no joggers). The band tie is only available at the school uniform shop; the trousers and shirt can also be purchased at the uniform shop (or elsewhere). If your child does not have band uniform (does last year's still fit?!!), please organise it in plenty of time to save a last minute rush! The uniform shop does occasionally have 2nd hand band uniforms so it's worth a look in the cupboard.

Dear Parent/Carer,
Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results
of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2020, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).
Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5
The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. You must apply by the due date.
There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a computer, you can contact the Team for assistance after 30 April 2019.
