Student Wellbeing
We’re excited to be hosting URSTRONG, an internationally recognized Social Emotional Wellbeing program, that empowers children with the skills, language and self-confidence to be better friends and develop healthier relationships. To learn more about URSTRONG I would encourage you to visits their web site (www.urstrong.com) where they have a number of free resources for parents.
Over the past year, our school has been focusing on social-emotional learning programs, implementing tools and strategies to support our efforts in creating a safe and caring school. We believe that empowering our students with these skills will create a school community where children are better able to manage their relationships in a safe and respectful environment. As part of this focus the school executive will be presenting information on the 26th of June at 6.30pm in the school library around our school wellbeing procedures. All parents are welcome to attend and then stay for P@C.
We also invite all students from Years 1 & 2 and their parents and Kindergarten (parents only), to come along on the 7th of August at 6.30pm, for a URSTRONG Language of Friendship Junior Parent-Child Workshop. And we invite all students from Years 3 to 6 and their parents to join us at 6.30pm on the 14th of August, for a URSTRONG Language of Friendship Parent-Child Workshop. The cost of the first 100 tickets for each event are being generously subsidised by the Artarmon Public School P&C! Please see attached flyers for details.

Teacher Professional Learning
Teachers from Artarmon have been selected to have their work published as part of a Department of Education project. The teachers worked on integrating learning from English, Maths, Science & other learning areas to engage students in transferring their skills to real word contexts.
Soccer Star!
Congratulations to Milly Bennett who has been selected to represent NSW in the National PSSA football (soccer) competition later this year.
This is a huge achievement as Milly is the youngest player selected and the only member from Year 5. We look forward to watching Milly captain the side in years to come.
Good luck Milly. Great work!

Year 3 News
What a busy time Year 3 have had this term... drama, robotics and finally an excursion!
Across Year 3 we are exploring the text ‘Tricycle’ through the School Drama progam and we can’t wait to find out what happens in the end! If you have a child in Year 3 ask them about some of the activities we have used to deepen our understanding of the story such as freeze frame, sculptures or hot seat.
Year 3 students continued their exploration of robotics with WeDo. To support our learning in the science unit ‘Night and Day’, students were asked to build a robot that could drive and turn in different directions. They will also create and program a robot to function as a space rover which will achieve a specific task, such as move in and out of a crater, collect a rock sample or drill a hole in the ground. This final task is ‘open-ended’ which requires students to use their knowledge about Lego Wedo to create their own robots to achieve the design task.
3HW, 3EC, 3JM and 3DG went on an excursion to the Sydney Observatory. We explored some of the history of this beautiful region of our city and learned so much to support our science unit using models, augmented reality and observations to investigate the Earth Sun relationship. We learned about the cycle of day and night and discovered the reason for different seasons. They times the movement of the Sun to investigate and calculate the length of the day and looked through a professional telescope to see objects in the sky. The best part was a visit to the digital planetarium where we examined our night sky and the galaxy beyond. We know 3AW and 3CH are really looking forward to their trip next week!
Band parents, please check Newsflash weekly for the latest news and reminders, we will publish advance dates as soon as we know them to help you plan your year!

Parent volunteers needed for Father's Day Concert
We are planning to hold a Father’s Day concert for all bands to perform on Thursday 29 August. It will be very similar to the Easter Band Breakfast and will be held before school in the school hall.
We are looking for volunteers both for an hour or two on the day, and to assist with the organisation beforehand including:
- preparation & shopping for the kitchen team;
- creating advertisements for Newsflash;
- creating a powerpoint for display on the big screen during the concert; and
- leading the clean-up team after the concert.
If you are available to volunteer (or would like to know more about what is involved), please email band@artarmonpandc.org.au with your name and a contact phone number.
Got a question?
