A great day out on Tuesday! Lots of fun in the sun at the cricket day.
Congratulations Millie & Sean
Last week, Sean and Millie represented Artarmon Public School and NSW at the National Primary School Soccer Championships in Canberra. It was an amazing opportunity that they will never forget. Millie's team came 2nd and although Sean's team did not get a place this year, they were formidable opponents.

Year 1 News - Artarmon Academy
During Term Three, all Year One students have been participating in Artarmon Academy. This has provided students with an opportunity to investigate, inquire and discover information about the human body, under the sea, dinosaurs and space through play-based learning and guided experiences.
Students had amazing experiences making decisions about their own learning based on their areas of interest. Each learning area had a wide variety of activities that allowed students to learn through tactile activities, like becoming palaeontologists by carefully exhuming dinosaur fossils in sand. They created models of functional human lungs, made using of paper, tape and straws. Students used technology to discover different dinosaurs, and parts of the human anatomy, using augmented and virtual reality books and posters. Some students created dinosaur movie trailers using IMovie. Students learnt interesting facts about oceans and sea life, as well as participating in modified “Snap” to learn about the food chain of sea creatures.
All Year One students have had magnificent experiences participating in Artarmon Academy. Their teachers have enjoyed seeing students take responsibility for their own learning, and promoting their sense of curiosity and wonder about the way our universe works. Congratulations to all Year One students for their effort during Artarmon Academy.
Mr Joshua Wood & Year 1 Teachers
Rail safety is an essential life skill, particularly for students at Artarmon Public School who have a train station right nearby.
Tabitha and Kylie from Sydney Trains came to visit last week to teach Year 3 students how to travel safely on and around trains and stations.
We watched films, played games and received a cool wristband that will help us remember their key messages of -
- Mind the gap
- Stay behind the yellow line
- Always walk on the platform
- Stranger danger
- Be considerate of others
If you have a child in Year 3, please ask them about the incursion and see if they can recall the main messages. If your child is in another grade it would be a great idea to discuss rail safety.
You might also like to download the Train Maze App (https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/sydneytrains/education#Primary_School_Students) so you and your child can discuss the essential elements of safe rail travel.
Thank you Sydney Trains for helping to keep our students safe!

WINNING HOUSE: Melba |
Dear Parents, As you all know the fundraising for the school is the responsibility of the Year 3 parents. The main event and the highlight on the school and most children’s social calendar is the Multicultural Fair. We need your help! We need you to donate goods to be used as prizes/auction items for games and activities at the Multicultural Fair. Donated goods can range in value from $5 to $5,000+. The donated items can be physical goods or they can be vouchers for services or stores. What items can you donate? It’s up to you! Some ideas are board games, sporting equipment, toys, a Westfield voucher, hand cream, books, perhaps some mugs or a stationary set the list is endless. We need items for both adults or children - the greater the variety of donations the more interest they will receive, which means more money will be raised for much needed outdoor play equipment for our children. As with all good things there is some fine print. The goods must be new and unused. The Multicultural Fair is on the 3rd November 2019, so any perishable items must be able to last beyond that date. And unfortunately, we are unable to accept alcohol, Lotto Tickets/Scratchies or any vouchers for tutoring services. Donating is simple all you need to do is drop the items in the tubs opposite the school office, if you are leaving items of high value or gift cards please give them to the office staff and ask them to be put in the P&C tray. Any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Fundraising Committee at fundraising@artarmonpandc.org.au. On behalf of our school and children thank you for your donations. Regards, Year 3 Fundraising Committee |

Father's Day celebrated in style!
I hope all the dads were spoiled on Father's Day and everyone enjoyed the Father's Day concert. Well done to all the musicians, you sounded great. Many thanks to Kali Lawrie for organising the concert and to her team of parent volunteer helpers on the day.
Will your child be joining or continuing in band in 2020?
Next term we will start the process of organising bands for 2020. Any child in Year 3 or above in 2020 may apply, details for registration for the 2020 music (band or strings) programs will be provided next term. Watch this space! Notes will come home with Year 2 and 3 students, so watch their school bags!
In order for the band program to run next year it is essential that the key band committee roles are filled. In particular a new Band Convenor is needed, as our current volunteer is leaving the school.
The Band Convenor's role is to liaise between the school and the band director and to coordinate the band program along with the other band committee members. This role can be shared between 2 (or more!) people. It's a great way to contribute to the music program and to your child's time at this school. No prior experience is required, but it will help if you take advantage of the opportunity for handover between now and the end of this year. To find out more please email band@artarmonpandc.org.au.
Playathon Wrap-up
Congratulations to all the Playathon participants and prizewinners. Many thanks to parent volunteers Georgie Roussac for sourcing prizes from local businesses, and Kali Lawrie for collating the results. All participants have been rewarded with a voucher for the school canteen which is valid until the end of this term. The following local businesses supported us with donations, please remember them when you are shopping!
Got a question?
Have you looked in the 2019 band information pack? A copy is available at https://portal.msmusic.com.au/artarmonmusic.
If it is about your hired instrument or instrumental tutorial please contact your tutor firstly, then our instrument coordinator or tutor coordinator if required.
For anything else please contact your band coordinator.
