CAROLS NIGHT - SAVE THE DATE
The bands , string ensembles, guitar groups and choirs will help us celebrate Christmas with our traditional carols night on FRIDAY 7 DECEMBER AT 6PM.
PRESENTATION DAYS
Each year Artarmon Public School have Presentation Day Assemblies. At these assemblies we honour the academic achievements of children from our school. Each class teacher has six medals to distribute. These include:
Two for High Academic Achievement, one for Mathematics, one for English, one for Citizenship and one for another Key Learning Area (KLA).
There are also grade awards for Overall Citizenship and ESL (English as a Second Language).
Teachers use results from class assessments, observations and collaborative discussions with the grade team and supervisor, to decide upon the award winners.
As you would appreciate, teachers take the presentation of achievement awards very seriously and spend many hours reviewing the data and in discussions to ensure the medals are given to deserving winners.

GOODBYE AND THANK YOU
During the year there are several editions of the local Artarmon Gazette. The local community has supported the school in many ways and that has included an article in each edition with news about the latest happenings at Artarmon Public School.
Jane Rowley has volunteered to do this job for the past 10 years and the next edition will be her last contribution.
I would like to acknowledge the work she has done and thank her sincerely for her support of our school community. Her articles have always reflected what is happening within our school - celebrations and challenges.
Thank you Jane
CHANGE OF SCHOOL COMMUNICATION APP AND WEBSITE
One of the major draw cards of moving to our new website with Schoolzine is all information and weekly Newsflash articles can be translated immediately using the inbuilt Google Translate function.
The current skoolbag app will no longer be used after this Friday and the new Schoolzine app will be introduced. This app is a product of the website design company, therefore, community messages and events are synced making it easier for the community to access information.
We will start using the new SZapp from the 19th November
To download the new Schoolzine app (SZapp) please follow the instructions attached.
TALL TREES TELL TALES

P&C Changes in 2019
This will be my last year as P&C President. Our family is moving interstate early next year which is an exciting adventure for us, but we will be sad to leave a wonderful school community here at Artarmon. My thanks to all parents for their support, friendship, encouragement, ideas and participation over the last five years.
I’m really pleased with how we have worked together to have a go and see what we could achieve. It’s the Artarmon way.
I’d also like to thank Mrs Green in particular, and her leadership team and all the teachers and staff. I have been very fortunate to learn a lot about education and leadership up close through working in partnership with this great team. There’s still lots more to do to finish the year off on a high.
At our AGM, we will elect a new President. If you are interested in this role please get in touch with me here at president@artarmonpandc.org.au.
I am very keen to see a smooth transition, which will include helping the new President with a proper handover. A lot of the big projects are now complete, meaning whoever takes on this role will have a chance to grow in the role and put their own stamp on things.
Year 2 Parents Evening - Fundraising 2019
It was an encouraging turnout on Monday night for the opening fundraising meeting, attended by Year 2 parents.
This was a good introduction with some great input for events for 2019.
Each year Year 3 parents run fundraising events at our school. 2019 sounds like it will be a fun and exciting year in fundraising. Year 2 Parents who couldn’t make the meeting but want to get involved should email fundraising@artarmonpandc.org.au
Last P&C Meeting for 2018
The final P&C meeting of 2018 will be held on November 28 in the school staff room at 7pm.
Please come along to hear important updates.

Current Band Students Returning in 2019
Current band parents have been sent an email requesting them to re-enroll their student for next year (apart from Year 6 - we hope you continue your musical journey at high school). Please complete the form, even if your child is not continuing in 2019, so we can maintain our database.
If your child is continuing in the band and will be in Year 5 or Year 6 next year, they may audition to attend the 2019 Hawaii Music Tour. Please complete the online permission form if you wish them to be considered for a place on the tour. If you have any questions about the tour, please contact Mr. Coombes (School Executive Staff Member).
Joining the Band Program
Interested in joining the band program in 2019? Our program welcomes new students who will be in Years 3, 4, 5, or 6 next year. (If your child is than this, we look forward to meeting them when they are in Year 3!) No prior music experience is required. Band information packs are available at https://portal.msmusic.com.au/artarmonmusic
It is essential that parents read the 2019 Band Information Pack to fully understand the costs and commitments for both parents and students before registering their child. To register your child to join the band, click on the ‘New Student Registration’ button on the same screen. If you already have a child in the music program you can also use the ‘Add Student’ button in the MySchoolMusic parent portal.
The deadline for applying for new band applications is Friday 16 November 2018 as instrument try-outs will take place the following week. Don’t be late!!
Volunteers for 2019
Halfway through Term 4 and the end of the year is nigh! Now is the time to be thinking of …
VOLUNTEERING WITH THE BAND PROGRAM!!
Yes, I am serious! Now is the best opportunity to consider how you can support our amazing band program. All of the administrative work is done by parent volunteers. There is a WIDE range of work available with a wide range of wonderful people to work with. Unfortunately, some of them will be leaving Artarmon Public School at the end of 2018. So now is the perfect time to jump in and see what it is all about. Ask questions; learn from those who are doing the role now; and most of all, have a taste of how you can help the band program AND still live your own life too (yes, it’s true!). If you are interested in what roles might be available or seeing where you might fit in, send an email to the Band Convener (details below).

Christmas Carols, December 7
Hopefully your house is ringing with the sound of joyful Christmas carol practice. Don’t get hung up on auditions – it’s not all about the serious stuff. Remember that playing an instrument is also about bringing joy to other people, bringing them together, and having fun with your friends while you do it.
So no silent nights at home, OK?
