Book Week Celebrations
It was wonderful to see so many children come to school today dressed as their favourite book character. The love of reading has always been very strong at Artarmon and this is a great way for the children to get excited and have some fun.
This year’s Children’s Book Council of Australia winners can be found here: https://www.cbca.org.au/winners-2020
There are some good titles here to stock up your shelves for quality literature at home.
First day of school for 2021
The Department of Education released this week that in support of a smooth start to 2021 staff will be provided two staff development days at the beginning of the year. This puts the first day of school for the majority of our students (excluding Kindergarten 2021 and Year 5 OC) to Friday 29th January. Please put this date in your calendar so you are ready for a great start to 2021!
Currently staff are allocated two staff development days at the end of the year and in 2021 this will go back to one.
Walkathon Tuesday 17th November
Our COVID safe Walkathon is going ahead!
Envelopes were sent home last term with information regarding donation and prizes available. So please encourage your children to collect donations off family and friends for every lap their little legs complete.
Due to current restrictions, students will be walking in Stage groups around the designated walkathon track. Unfortunately, due to restrictions, we are unable to have parents attend the event.
To make up for the absence of parent helpers, we are encouraging students to wear odd or colourful socks to help celebrate the day and provide a little fun.
When will the children be walking?
9am - 10am - Stage 3 and Stage 1 students
10am - 11am - Kindergarten and Stage 2 students
Thank you in advance for your continued support of our school and our fundraising events. Please return your envelopes to school by the 4th December. All money raised will go towards upgrading our iPads across the school.

Internet Safety
The Department of Education has sent the following advice for parents to assist in limiting students’ exposure to harmful online content and keep our children safe.
Then following points are great reminders for parents when monitoring and keeping our children safe online.
- Engage in your child’s online activity and discuss the types of apps, websites and games they are viewing to ensure content is age-appropriate.
- Make use of parental control on devices to help limit your child’s online exposure.
- Help your child report and block inappropriate content on social media or apps.
- Encourage your child to talk to you about anything upsetting they view online.
- Visit www.esafety.gov.au for further advice on apps, social media and online safety issues.
YEAR 6 OC 'DAY OF THE NOTABLES'
On Tuesday, Year 6 OC presented a ‘Day of the Notables’! Due to Covid restrictions, the usual Night of the Notables could not go ahead, however, the event was still held for Stage 3 students to come and see. Each student from 6SR and 6LW had to transform into a notable Australian for the day. They set up their own stand with information and artefacts relating to their notable. All the stands were very impressive! They also performed a living tableau for the Year 5 OC students so they could see the high standards that have been set. Well done to Year 6 OC for so much fantastic work and a great effort.
Mrs Robinson and Mrs Winn.
Not Returning or Returning Late in 2021?
The first day of school for most students next year will be Friday 29 January, 2021. Year 5OC students will begin on Monday 1 February, 2021 and new Kindergarten students will be informed by letter of their starting date.
It is vital that we know if your child/ children will NOT be returning to Artarmon or will be returning late next year. Some families take extended holidays in January/ February and we need to know your return date so that your enrolment can be counted. This information will enable the school to plan for staffing and classing needs.
This note does not apply to Year 6 students.
If your family are not returning or returning late in 2021, please click on the link and complete the online form.

WINNING HOUSE: |
P&C meeting
The next P&C meeting is coming up on Wednesday 28 October at 7pm and will be held via ZOOM.
If you have any questions or topics that you would like addressed at the upcoming P&C meeting you can ask them anonymously via this form. Questions can be addressed to the school executive or the P&C.
World Teachers’ Day
World teachers’ day is coming up on Friday 30 October. This year, despite all the challenges that have been thrown at us, our teachers have made sure that education has continued. I think more than any other year 2020 has reinforced the significant role that our teachers play in the lives of children, students, their families and the broader community.
Last year on World Teachers’ Day the P&C hosted a breakfast for all the teachers, however this year due to social distancing measures being in place the P&C have organised a special surprise that we will share with parents at the next P&C meeting.
Friday 30 October is a day we get to make our teachers feel special. Send a card, pick a flower, write a nice note. The certainly deserve it!
Warm regards,
Malvina Crastin
President
Artarmon P&C
Dear String parents
The ensemble auditions will be held in Week 9 of Term 4. It will be important that students maintain their practice sessions and sight reading. I hope the practice routine helped out in last week’s newsletter. As all music teachers say, “consistency is the most important step to enjoying successful practice. The truth is the practice is best done and easiest when done consistently. The more we practice, the more we are inspired to practice.”
Having a hard time with consistency? Play just after waking or right before bed time. When it becomes routine, it’s harder to leave out of your day and it’ll actually get done. I know that my son will happily opt out of washing dinner dishes and practice violin instead.
Audition information notes will be sent out by the following strings coordinators in the following days. Please print out notes and music and read with your child.
Also a parent volunteer is needed to assist the current Strings Instrument Coordinator and take over this role. Please send me an email at strings.artarmonpandc@gmail.com if you are interested and are able to help out. This amazing program runs with parent volunteers, so many thanks for the parents that have helped out so far.
