Welcome to Week 4. I hope all our families celebrated and remembered the mothers in our lives over the weekend and spent quality time with family. Congratulations to our Orchestra and String ensembles for their outstanding Mother's Day concert last week. Our students, music directors, teachers and parent volunteers have yet again blown me away with their amazing talent.
Congratulations JOYCE!
An amazing achievement by one of our very own talented Artarmon students, Joyce Sun. Joyce has been selected to represent NSW at the National Tennis championship in Brisbane later this year. This is an outstanding effort and we are so proud of her and her efforts.
I asked Joyce to write us a brief summary to share with our community.
I drove to Melbourne with my Mum and Dad to play in the Under 11’s National Tennis Camp (this is for the top 8 girls and top 8 boys around Australia). I played tennis at Melbourne Park. The camp was lots of training and lots of fun, it was really good to see my tennis friends again.
Then I went to Albury to represent Sydney North Tennis at the NSWPSSA championship. I played in the singles and the doubles. It was super fun. I got to play against my friends and against other people I didn’t know. In the tournament my team came second. I won most of my matches and I lost only one. After the tiring four days it was time to announce who got in the Bruce Cup. There were 7 girls and 7 boys who got chosen to go. I’m excited to go in October to Brisbane to represent NSW to play against other states.

YEAR 5 STATE LIBRARY EXCURSION
The State Library was an Excellent Excursion
By Alex Li and Anrwyee Maiti
Books filled with horror, fantasy and jokes. Paintings of celebrities, prime ministers and artists. Where can you find all these things? Where else but the NSW State Library. There are tons of thrilling books, and it’s also a silent place where you can study, work and read. There are educational studies and discoveries perfect for anyone.
When you step in this book palace you will be greeted and granted permission to explore the adventures that this library grants you. When Artarmon Public School entered this wonderful place, we were treated like royalty. This is full of secret doors, exciting stories and four million books. This place is truly brilliant
Is your local library too noisy? Well, have you heard of the State Library? You can plan all your work, documents and slides without anyone making a peep. Hundreds of citizens sprint to get to the Mitchell Library where everything is as quiet as an ant.
Is it too hard to find a chemistry book for your next exam? Well, the State Library is dedicated to education. There is even a children's library for children to learn about their subjects. Heading to this library is a must.
There is no doubt that this is the best library in the world as there are loads of amazing sights, it’s a place of peace and quiet, and there are untold educational books for children.
Brace yourself for a wonderful adventure.
The State Library
By Angela Ouyang
It’s important that very child truly appreciates the enchanting the surroundings of the NSW State Library, which sits proudly on Macquarie Street. This wholesome experience displays ancient masterpieces, provides educational activities, as well as many individual libraries.
To begin with, children will walk through many galleries, stocked to the brim with famous, inspiring works of art. The walls depict primary sources like the Eureka Stockade or significant events or Australian history. The tour guide explains backstories behind the pieces of work as your child walks through each and every room. Learning new facts about beautiful masterpieces is a must-see!
Additionally, children will get the opportunity to enter a mysterious secret room and manage their own play describing the daily life, the outfit and dialogue or a miner during the gold rush era. This educational activity is full of learning and thrill for your minors developing brain and they will be able to clearly understand what life was like during the goldfields.
All Year Five pupils deserve the chance to stroll through the Mitchell Library which holds more than four million books. The library was started by David Scott Mitchell. David was a famous book collector who was only interested in rare, one-of-a-kind books. He collected many books before realizing that, when he died, no one would be there to look after them. Out of options, Mitchell donated the precious books to the library where they now sit today.
Your child will appreciate the effort that the librarians took to provide such an experience to go through. The New South Wales State Library is a wonderful building to spend time in with friends and family.
CROSS COUNTRY
By : Elyssa and Yara 6MB
Stitches, we all get them. How do we get them? From running a huge lap.
Hi, Elyssa and Yara here, writing to you about Cross Country. Artarmon Public School had the Cross Country Carnival on the Wednesday of Term 2, Week 3. The house winner is yet to be announced making everyone stand on their tippy-toes waiting. The morning of Cross Country was quite nerve-racking for us. Here is an interview from Phoenix, a student from class 6MB.
Elyssa: How do you feel about Cross Country?
Phoenix: Well, it was very good but also very challenging because I had to run five whole laps around the area of Artarmon Reserve.
In most people’s opinions, everyone thought the Cross Country was going to be challenging because we heard we had to run many laps, but we all had fun in the end, and spent lots of time outside with our friends and being able to build trust in ourselves and self-confidence
GIRLS KNOCKOUT CRICKET
By Divya.C
On the 11th of May, Artarmon Girls Cricket Team went to Artarmon reserve to play Mona Vale Public School. Many of us had never played a competitive match of cricket before, so kudos to Bhavika, Dyuthi, Orla, Shiori, Vidhi and Avea for working together as a team. We hadn’t played together, so we were all considerably nervous when we walked to Artarmon Reserve.
With the amount of stretches we did prior to the match; I was worried someone would break a leg before we even started playing! Our captain, Siona, won the toss and chose to bat first. The whole thing was very tense and watching the batsmen play was nerve-wracking. We all gave it 100% and improved with every ball! Congrats to Myra who made 30 runs for the team. We made a total of 2 for 160.
After a quick break, the second innings got underway, and it was our turn to bowl and field. Kriti and Siona both got two wickets for the team, and Nishika got two catches and a wicket. Everyone fielded excellently, which limited Mona Vale to 10 for 77. This meant we won the match by 83 runs!
Thank you very much to Mr Johnson for organising the match, as we all had a great time. We are all super proud of ourselves and looking forward to our next match!
BOYS KNOCKOUT CRICKET
By Shubham G.
Hi, MY NAME IS Shubham, captain of the school knockout cricket team. I am pleased to share the fact that the Artarmon Public School cricket team has won their first game.
Everyone in the team played exceptionally well. Specific key players and stats that stood out were, Arjun Mulik retiring at 40 runs, Jack Watt taking three crucial wickets in two overs and Samay Gowing for getting two run outs and one wicket.
In the end, everyone played their best game and put in their full effort. A special thanks to our opponent, Lane Cove for playing a really high intensity game.
Without the effort of teachers and students there wouldn’t have been such an amazing game, thank you.

NUDE FOOD TUESDAY
On Tuesday 9th May, the Green Team launched NUDE FOOD TUESDAY at Artarmon Public School! It was great to see students from Year 3 to 6 embracing food without single use packaging. We look forward to announcing the classes with the most nude food in the next newsletter. These classes will be the first recipients of our fortnightly Green Class Award. At the end of the term, the Year 3 to 6 class with the most nude lunches on Tuesdays will win a special movie lunch hosted by the Green Team!
What is Nude Food?
Simply put, it’s food without excess packaging. Usually, this means food that is not processed, often making it a healthier and more environmentally friendly option.
Why?
Reducing packaging has important environmental benefits. Waste, particularly single use plastic, is a huge problem for schools. By encouraging unpackaged food, there is less litter, making for a cleaner and healthier school environment. Less waste is sent to landfill. It also encourages better food and drink choices, as many healthy food options come with their own packaging!
Looking forward to seeing our Nude Food winners!
Kind Regards
Green Team
VEX Robotics Competition is organised by The REC (Robotics Education & Competition). Every year more than 1 million students, from over 90,000 teams across more than 90 countries, participate.
VEX Robotics Australian National Championship is the highest level of VEX robotics competition in the country. All the participating teams must work hard to gain a spot from previous qualifying tournaments during this competing season. This season, the VEX National Championship is the largest in the last three years with over 100 teams and 1200+ people participating from all different states and territories.
Given the outstanding result of William (Year 6), Sam (Year 4), and Alex's (Yesr 5) teams, they were selected and travelled to Dallas, Texas to represent Australia internationally at VEX Worlds, during the holidays.
We are so proud of the boys and their achievements and wanted to share it with our community.
Good on you boy! Fantastic effort.
This is our Lost Property pile..... Getting close to similar in height.
